The Central American landrace and heirloom thread (Part 2)

Down at his latitude plants start flowering up to a month and a half earlier. If they are like the Oaxaca, flowering onset for Guerrero is not long before or is around 12 /12 day night cycle. Mid September for us.

Man that looks nice. You use a short pheno Oaxaca @PineTarBastard? I’m nearly certain I recognize what pheno is popping out. The Mulange is a bit fast, like 11-13 weeks maybe right? This one should sit right at 12-13 weeks I’d guess. Nice grow @Panamajock. You say it smells Malawi ish?
@DesertHeartGardens Are you popping those now? I’ve yet to see this one grown for bud. Oh duh. You said in a couple months.

I had the real deal RKS several times in a row.

It was golf ball buds, lime green felt like original Blueberry the high.

RKS was fire the first 2 ounces, then it really lost it’s luster quick. We were burnt out fast on it…

So long story short. We didn’t want anymore because we couldn’t get the high it had at first.

I put my Red Snake on flower yesterday. I took clones a week or so ago and they were small to begin with. They’re in an area that’s hard to get to and I realized yesterday that they were completely dry.

Anyway, now that they’re in the tent, I expect to see them catch up.

I said the spears(colas) are taking a pointed Malawi type look…
Smell wise….early days…just a slight citrus smell just now.

I had to enroll the largest ones a little, to control their height a little, different phenotypes of some CBG red points. germinated at different times, but for the same repro.

I mentioned Malawi as I was under the impression Mulange Gold was a landrace from Southern Malawi , named after mount Malanje.

The Mulanje Massif, also known as Mount Mulanje, is a large inselberg in southern Malawi. Sapitwa Peak, the highest point on the massif at 3,002 m, is the highest point in Malawi. It lies 65 km east of Blantyre, rising sharply from the surrounding plains of Phalombe and the Mulanje district.

The Oaxaca female I used was a clone of the large one in the raised bed and I used pollen from my two reversed female Mulanjes. The Mulanjes I grew were extremely long flowering varieties and did not finish by mid November at 35N. I’m guessing from the flower formation it could have continued flowering for at least another 6-8 weeks. It couldn’t survive too many freezing nights in the mid 20’s(F).

None of my Oaxacas were short. They all became beasts limited only by their respective containers.

On a side note, the MDS/Oaxaca was basically finished by the end of October, just like both parents, but was still green and growing in early December this year. It easily survived weeks of freezing night temps. I highly recommend that cross. The high is comfortably strong, very pleasant and lasts for hours and hours. And it was a heavy producer.

Here’s a few pics of the mom and dadmom of the Oaxaca/Mulanje cross
The Oaxaca is the golden one on the right and the Mulanje is the greener one on the left. These were taken in mid and late October

Certainly wouldn’t argue about Parentage there…

Wee tad smaller…but quality is there.

…smashing grow so far

Thanks

Maybe now would be a good time to selectively breed IBLs/landraces. While an IBL requires 7 generations of selective breeding, how many generations does it take for a landrace to become distinct? It’s almost certainly already beginning. Surely, there are populations adapted to their environment, and have been for decades.
Not to sound preachy, but we can do at least something about it, and maybe create an entirely new cannabis landscape.

Wow those look divine! What sort of scents/aromas did you pick up off of the Mulanje and that particular Oaxacan?

@US3RNAM3 Thanks. They were fun to grow and both produced more flowers than I could harvest and dry. Early on, the Mulanjes smelled like cinnamon and pumpkin spice. When they were flowering, they smelled like honeysuckle.

For IBL don’t you run 7 generations then BX into the F2?

That’s how I do it. By going back to F2 i get the stable generation of F7, then diversity of the F2.

In others words a high percentage of plants should produce the 7th generation traits while adding diversity back into it. :dove:

2 Summers ago, we boldly ran a Honduras x Panama from Ace, outside in Southern Ontario.

3rd week of November saw it get harvested. (So lucky with the Fall weather 2022)

Still an uplifting smoke !!! Pushed it with a 12.5 - 13 week flower.
Indoor grow would be needed around here to Max her out. Good Luck @Weednerd.Anthony! There are 6’ bamboo stakes in pic#1
