Just reading that makes me feel dizzy.
Too be honest I loved doing it. Standing up there forcing it down the chimney was excellent exercise and as I was high up the air I was breathing was a lot cleaner. Iāve had it once or twice though when fitting a liner the next door neighbor had their stove running and I was breathing whatever they were burning and the heat was uncomfortable to say the least. The bricks also get quite hot with the radiant heat at the top of the chimneys
My two cents, i would get on the roof and check to see if the ducting goes all the way out. You might have both pipes all the way up to the top. Iāve seen it more than a few times. If that is the case, then the cap is only to keep the wind from blowing down the tube and i think it would be ok to use add a vent for your room. If you find no pipes or one pipe coming out of the top of the chimney then donāt use it.
Lolā¦Iām having drinks alreadyā¦Banjo Bowlā¦so crawling onto the roof today is out. But but my plan for tomorrow was to do just thatā¦I want to take my daughters old bike tassels and tape them inside the chute (so wind wonāt blow them, but rather the air movement from the basement)ā¦run my inline and see if they moveā¦also to remove the ducting from the furnace to the vent to confirm theyāre not connected.
My gf will shine the 1,000,000 lumen spotlight (yes, 1 million lumensā¦apparentlyā¦lol) in there and Iāll see if I can see it from intake x2 or exhaust x2.
Very fuckered messageā¦drinksā¦GO BLUUUUUEEREE!!!
The correct way to find out if they are linked is to somehow temporary cap the top of the stack or pipe. Remove the cap from the original pipe. Put a smoke pellet inside of the stove. The pipe and stack will fill up with white smoke. If they are indeed linked together with the stack filling with smoke the said smoke will exit through the pipe you intend to vent out of back into the basement
Im going through it now. My block is funky. I bought everything 4". 600w hid. 6" fan and filter. Is was like Jamaica in my room. Hehe. Go big or go micro! I just didnāt wanna steer ya wrong on a furnace.
