The shop had a killer deal on the bulbs. 4200 k 1000 watt metal halide. They were 50 bucks a light so I grabbed some. I’m very stuck in my old ways but I’m wondering about trying these for the first two weeks of flower to discourage stretch. What are your thoughts on this spectrum of light?
Cheers
Grows plants just fine. Sunlight is about 5500K, so it’s still plenty more red than that.
1000w MH is a somewhat less efficient bulb than HPS, producing a less total light overall (and bulbs wear out quicker) but they still grow great plants, 100%.
They will stretch somewhat less under that spectrum, IME. This may be a good or bad thing depending on what you’re growing. I’d like less stretch with the stuff I typically grow, if you grow short squat broadleaf plants this may be less ideal.
I grew a small crop with 4200 ceramic metal halide and it was beautiful herb. Much easier to appreciate under that spectrum as well, no orange sodium glow.
