Looks like you are right, but which?

False Katydid (Amblycorypha oblongifolia) http://entnemdept.ifas.ufl.edu/walker/buzz/s001a.htm

or

Coneheaded Katydid (Neoconocephalus nebrascensis) http://entnemdept.ifas.ufl.edu/walker/buzz/s160a.htm

This one is probably the best bet.

Northern Bush Katydid - female- (Scudderia septentrionalis)

Holy crap. http://entnemdept.ifas.ufl.edu/walker/buzz/katylist.htm#Subfamily%20Phaneropterinae

Never mind. There is a mind boggling list of sub-species.

Sorry for the fuzzy picks but this lady or her offspring have been hunting my mint bushes for about 5 yrs. I do get a bit upset when they grab the baby lizards but they do a good job otherwise.

I’d have fun catching that one and giving to our scorpion. :scorpion::skull_and_crossbones:

i’ve never seen a praying mantis once, i guess they’re not local to here, but it’s also winter like 8 months of the year

I read this yesterday morning.
I found it to be very interesting.
