Hello fellow OGers!
It’s been about 100 days for me on OG and it has been one of the most awesome experiences in my life! This is a kind, friendly and giving community and I have been proud to be a part of it!
This was my first, and last, social media experience and it has been amazing. However, I find that I am investing too much time and energy in this site to the detriment of real world relationships. I now understand being addicted to social media.
A few things before I go:
My departure is unrelated to the bot debate, which was interesting.
I’d like to thank @DougDawson and others like him for being the heart and soul of this community. I tip my hat to all of you!
I’ve learned that @mota is an incredible Renaissance man. He knows everything. He reached out to me recently and I really enjoyed our conversation. Keep posting @mota.
@THCeed is one of my favorite ppl. He is kind, generous, and caring. I hope we meet in the real world brother- I think we’d recognize each other.
I came for the seeds but ended up loving the ppl. What a surprisingly wonderful experience.
Regarding the bot debate:
As much as it may disappoint some, I am a living, breathing human with hopes and dreams, pain and joy. I found it curious that when I proposed a community discussion regarding this issue it resulted in an accusatory response from some. I’ll probably ponder that for the rest of my life.
What I learned from the experience is that OG has no real defenses against bots. It is left for ppl to accuse others on the threads. There needs to be a process where humans are identified and that’s it.
I want to especially thank @Hashpants and @GYOweed for their attempts to protect this community. They thought they smelled a bot and acted on it. Their analyses lead them to the wrong conclusion but they did the best they could. Again, there is no process so they did the best they could. @Hashpants I really appreciate you for catching the typo I made regarding where I live. You are detail oriented and have a sharp wit. OG is better off with you being a part of the family.
Only one thing disappointed me about the OG culture. When I was being accused of being a bot and offered to be verified via phone no one stepped up to help me protect my humanity. It would have only taken a few minutes. I think this may be an aspect of the Bystander Effect. I’ll have to chew on that one for a while. I have strong ego defense mechanisms but being called a bot is dehumanizing and might really hurt someone who is fragile or depressed.
The seeds:
The seeds that you gave me have literally changed my life. I have neurological damage from West Nile virus and smoke inhalation. My wife suffers from gastropareses. Marijuana makes an enormous difference in our lives. I cannot thank you enough.
Threads
I realize that that my threads will die but I enjoyed creating and curating them. The Stoner Below me is not my thread, but it is my favorite.
I wish each and every one of you all the happiness that you so richly deserve. You are VERY good people.
Bert out!
Peace to all!
