TLDR: does anybody know the correct ratio for using florel, and the frequency of sprayings for reversing a male?
I have one male Mexican Death Sativa left from an open pollination. Throughout the grow (& reveg) he displayed zero intersex traits, higher vigor, early pollen-sac formation, and revegged fully in the same 1gal without autoflowering or showing any obvious signs of stress. No resin developed on his sacs unfortunately. Though for the time being, I’d dub it as an ”good” male.
I’m not growing anymore MDS seeds for a while. And I don’t want this male to take up space in my veg area for an unforeseen future. I do however have a quart of Florel on hand. Figured if I’m gonna get rid of him anyways, might as well experiment.
I attempted this process once before on three males. Needless to say, it didn’t go well; the first concentration [1:4 water] was wayyy too strong and chocked me out (& burnt the plant). The second attempt [1:6 water] was better but still burnt the plant. And the final attempt [1:10] was cut short because I had to make room for the MDS packs.
This fourth attempt will be at a ratio of 1:10, unless somebody suggests differently. The trouble is: at what frequency do I spray (?)
I’m thinking once every 4-7 days, but have no rhyme or reason, other than me not wanting to burn him to death. Any input is appreciated.
There was a thread over on Ic Mag about it and I remember there being discussion of ratios but you’d have to look there, i believe if you search Ethephon there you should be able to find it
I’m SOOO glad you made this topic. I’m also going to be trying this in a couple weeks once my clones get to the size I want. I’ll have 3 chances to get it right.
Finally had success. As it turns out you need to mix ethephon on the same day(s) you apply. Applied twice across one week @500 ppm before lights out. Female flowers started to appear at week 3 and I have a very clear idea of the traits passed along by the treated males. Planning a larger breeder male hunt later in 2022. VERY HAPPY with the results!
Awesome to hear, at one point I was really into this for the same reasons as I have a very small grow area. It would’ve saved me from cloning and keeping alive a male for over a year while I polllinated something, let that grow, then grew out the next generation to see if a male was worth keeping.
Sadly at this point, since I only grow for myself anyway, I’m just going with STS and fem seeds. For my purposes it’s just far easier to take a female I like, reverse it and cross it to another female I like to get seeds.
