Should work fine just wash your hands like your going into surgery. I usually use a couple pieces. 1 to mend break, and another for support
Open wounds are vectors for all kinds of nasties. When you break or cut into a plant always be clean and precise. For sanitizing my tools i like 1 to 10 bleach.
