Prologue?..
The following has been composed through a bunch of drafts throughout the summer and has a series of chronologically spaced reference points I want to attempt to convey, so please, bare with me…
{Warning}
I allow my ‘alter ego’ to leak out in my writing and my wife sometimes tells me “I’m not as funny as I think I am”…
…I think I just need to work on my delivery…
So… from here on in - please read everything I write in Max Headroom’s voice…
{old cultural reference}
and feel free to slightly stutter…
OGer, the Encore
This is my first ‘official’ Co-op seed run, the first of many I hope.
It’s amazing to me the progression I have gone through from an old closet hippy growing a little weed to plant breeding & preservation. …Along with the requisite studies and research.
So basically what I’m doing - I’ve borrowed from others and bootstrapped up with my own protocols… Each grow expands into new territories & is also a source of feedback to improve for the next time.
I’m always playing with some ‘new stuff’ every grow…
This time, I have some amazing super soil and other stuff, by a cool company I found, Black Swallow Living Soils. These folks are great, I ran into them at the first Cannabiz show in Toronto back in 2019. We got talking about soil mixes and comparing notes only to find out these guys had not only researched the field but also put a bunch of the best known recipes together in a PDF.
And sure enough, a few weeks later, it popped into my mailbox.
Full disclosure, No Freebies, I paid for everything (even the Tee shirt).
Thinking over the last few grows, I’ve grown concerned that the fabric pots just dry out too quickly. Slightly helpful to add a few percent RH in a dry spell but I think they develop a dry shell around the perimeter that will not re-hydrate.
Now I think I’ve found a cool solution, a fabric pot that lined with a moisture resistant liner…
It’s not as crazy as it sounds - the inner liner stops 4 inches short of the bottom, so you still have all of the lower root pruning advantages. That company, Grass Roots, also makes larger no-till containers.
Also planned is a 5 Gal Airpot, and some well-worn veterans, just for comparison.
The Main Event
I was one of the lucky few that scored a pack of Mongo’s Rare OG’Er in my first Overgrow box.
Wow, what a mind blower - getting that package, like Christmas Story for stoners!
…On reflection that was when I realized it was time to drop anchor and call this place home.
Well ok, ‘ nuf of that sh’te … …so what’s on the menu?
It’s 13 beans of the Rare OG’er and 2x Dinafem Critical 2.0 fems
Why the 2.0s? … Why not??
Always fun to play a wild card… …ya’ just never know what’s going to happen!
The Critical 2.0 is a rare Sativa-like pheno of the Critical Mass line, from the Skunk #1/Afghani cross. The Skunk is supposed to punch through loud and strong.
OG’er is the meeting of Bubba Kush and Master Kush and is supposed to be a serious, heavy hitter.
So not dissimilar lineages (2.0 vs OGer). I think a couple test crosses are in order to see what pops up.
The grow that my beans came from is here:
(Seed Run Co-op Rare Og'Er -Closed-)
… and a Late Planning Change…
A most kind contribution has been received from BareFrog!
After telling him my plans, a miraculous pack of Ogers’ 2019 showed up in the mail. Now that brings the hunt up to 26 beans! So it’s a two for one Co-op seed run… well, sort of…
This is a bit of a challenge but I think I can handle it {…cracks arthritic knuckles}
The Plan
In order to keep this grow to a manageable size, I’m going to need to be a bit more ruthless than usual.
I’m going to run these two packs as two separate lots and borrowing from BOGs “Bonanza of Green”, I going for 3 females and 2 males from each group.
I’ll do some training to establish a good breeding structure for the plants. Then flip to flower soonest.
Wait 3 weeks & then pollinate. These changes should help maximize seed quality and quantity.
I’m up and live folks!
