(complete) OGer, the Encore

That’s a possibility… I’m using drops and Phosphoric acid for PH down.
I adjust to 6.3~6.5 range.
I normally like to let the water rest a day after adjusting but several times I ran out and used freshly adjusted water…

I have been running 65% RH in the tent and wondered if I had overlapping leaves and forgot to turn the circulation fan back on (did that more than once…)
They are mid veg now so I lowered the RH to 60% and moved them around to maximize their spacing in case that was the issue.

So far only that one leaf, everything else is looking normal. :crossed_fingers: :crossed_fingers:

Hey Joe, good to see ya!

I’m using a KIS mix organic soil from a local source, Black Swallow Living Soils… Really nice stuff.

Thought of the day

I want to float an idea out there and get other folks’ opinions on it.

I, like many others, have built LED lights and they generally follow a similar pattern. We have 2 drivers and interleave the leds and they are dimmable.

While reflecting on this (while high of course… :vulcan_salute:) I wondered about what I could do if I replaced half of the 3500K strips with 5000K strips (my drivers have separate dimmer controls)

WHY??

Well… I’m running 20 strips of 3500K and I have noticed that my plants are consistently shorter than with my old ‘blurple’ which I attribute to the increased blue spectrum. More blue in the spectrum definitely shortens the stretch.

BUT… If I had half of the strips running 5000K I could manipulate the combined spectrum to increase the blue end…

Specifically, I’m thinking about how I can deal with those 4 meter equatorial sativas in a 7 foot tent…

Scenario:

A sativa landrace, (Thai, Colombian… you pick)

Germ and veg for 3 weeks, then start ‘cranking up the blue’…
Switch to 12/12 (or 11/13) and max the blue.

OK, in practical terms we will have to meter the lights (PAR/ Lumens you pick)

I’m thinking that stretching under heavy blue spectrum should help to contain these wild buggers…

That’s the basic idea, what are your thoughts?

Fighting with sativas box|nullxnull I would go 12/12 from seed, the rest I don’t know icon_e_confused|nullxnull, they say 3500K can be used the entire grow, but sativas like more bluewish light, as the sun in the latitudes where they use to grow … beer3|nullxnull

You’re definitely on the right track. I can tell you that sativas don’t like the HPS light I am using. It works, but blue lights would be better. I usually keep the plants under CFL lights until they are close to 2 ft tall. This usually involves at least part of their stretch cycle and I think this helps keep them shorter. Either metal halide or LED is the way to go. I think it’s a great idea to swap out half the bulbs halfway through flower too,and replace them with something redder to see what happens.
The biggest gun in Your Arsenal is the use of small containers to control size and height. 7 ft is plenty

Alfalfa/kelp tea is finally ready, how to tell? It starts to foam :yum:

PLANTS:

Main structure is complete.

Nodes 1,3 on laterals are progressing, initial-shaping commencing next week

Colonies of springtails seen in several pots… Hmm…

NOTES:

For me, more than one springtail is one too many… So lets go for the BTi bio-bomb!
(when it comes to Total Living Organics (in the house) Gpaw has limits…)
I grind up my ‘local product’ with a micro plane, sprinkle around the base and water in.

The springtails put on quite the show when there are pools of water on the soil.
Their surface must have a positive charge as they float so effortlessly on the water, never getting wet.

I love it when they flip their tails… they jump easily 10 times their body length and the biggest ones are approaching 2mm, that’s significant energy!

I know where they came from, it was the fresh EWC from the worm bin.

Being HaF (high as F**K) and having The Power of the Internet (…why am I thinking Grayskull?) at my fingertips I decided to investigate my most-likely victims…

Turns out that springtails are no longer classified as insects… …wtf?

Yes, after DNA sequencing (& all the math magic), they are now classified as a “Basil lineage of Hexapoda”.

Ripped from Wiki…

basal is the direction of the base (or root) of a rooted phylogenetic tree or cladogram.”

TL:DR: “Soo… they are kinda related … and we grafted them on at the bottom…”

I wonder how many extinction events this branch has gone through…?

The earliest date for them is 420Ma, so they missed the first couple but that means they survived 6! (or more - depending on how you count them)

Further digging identifies them as Folsomia candida

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folsomia_candida

They are all females and reproduce by Parthenogenesis… huh…

Their diet consists mainly of the hyphae of fungi including grazing on root mycorrhizae.[1]

Wait a minute… I paid good money for that Dynomyco… :face_with_symbols_over_mouth: :japanese_ogre::rofl:

TLL:DR

Did Gpaw just nuke a dinosaur bug?

NO… technically they predate dinosaurs by almost 200Mya
well, that… and they laughed off the Bti…

In some respects they are as far from us as we are from horseshoe crabs …
things that make you go Hmm…

Meanwhile back at the Ranch…

… A portion of this HaF is directly contributable to support from OTUG!
Thanks again buddy!!

PLANTS:

Going by the pre-flowers

We have 6 “declared males”, 1 declared female… the Critical+ …oh wait… that was feminized… D’OH…

I’m guessing one more male - leaving 4 that hopefully are female.

Hahaha, OUTSTANDING update! It had everything:

-Helpful tips
-Pertinent plant details
-A stoned chasing of the proverbial rabbit followed by-
-A highly entertaining and informative stoner ramble on the subject of said rabbit hole pursuit
-A return to pertinent plant details

I give this update a 9/10 (lost a few points in the “plant photos” category)

LOL, Glad you liked it! it took a few re-writes to get it… readable.

I knew I was going to get ‘dinged’ on the photos category.
That will be next though… A proper closeup look at what I’m doing.

MB4: orange band, not declared, Good structure, Good branching :arrow_heading_up:

MB5: yellow band, Male, Good structure, Good branching :arrow_heading_up:
showing some borderline deficiencies…

MB6: no band, Male, Short structure, Good branching :arrow_heading_up:

MB7: no band, not declared, Short structure, Poor branching :arrow_heading_up:

MB8: blue band, Male, Good structure, Good branching :arrow_heading_up:

Excellent update. You really do have a knack for writing. Thanks for the Springtail lesson. Plants are looking great! Learning lots!

I’m glad you are enjoying it!
I’m finally seeing some interesting distinctions in the plants, that will help with the selections later.

Those springtails are rather neat. Basically born pregnant … like Tribbles… :vulcan_salute:

Update on the cloner:

I have 3 clones (out of 12) rooted and in solo cups. One is the Critical + :+1:
2 clones ‘snotted over’ and ‘mushed out’. I trimmed them back to good clean material and are giving them a second go.
7 clones haven’t done a darned thing. healthy, just no interest in growing roots yet…

Yep, had to take second cuttings in the first week of flowering bc a few of mine wouldn’t budge on the root department. Found a cozy spot where the dryer is beside the furnace and that seems to have done the trick!

I’ve been thinking about it.
It’s the same setup (lights/temperature/humidity as before.
I took the clones when they were fat and juicy… Maybe that’s the issue, they were too happy…
Well, they are showing signs that the leaves are getting low, a little yellowing starting. Let’s see if that shifts them into gear. :+1:
It could just be a tougher strain to clone. Most of cuttings are male so no loss.

Ok folks, I’ve been thinking about my aero cloner, it was a good start but I need larger so I’ll build one in the spring.

Right now I’m only running pH’d water with 10ppm bleach.
In order for incremental improvement…
what have you folks found that improves rooting clones??

8am and I’m already out of likes but this is one of the more comprehensive logs I’ve checked in in in a while. Really great work @Gpaw I’ve had some issues with success in my bubble cloner last run, this time around I gave the root riot plugs another try and had great success overall, I made sure to put the whole thing on top of a heat mat and kept the humidity really high inside the dome, I had suspected that the issue with my bubble cloner was the lack of a dome and the low humidity. So far just having warm temps and higher humidity overall seems to have helped, it’s also totally different genetics though so not exactly positive that’s what did the trick, but figured I’d just chime in
