Lactobacillus facultative anaerobe, probiotic, the most beneficial bacteria on the planet in your research you will realize that the biome of the root system of the plant has or is very similar to what is in our own gut biome or supposed to most ppls are all messed up/missing a great deal of due to the use of antibiotics the gutbiome it the path to true health
Ok so my pile got hot for a few days then cooled off. I added more shredded cardboard and more plant matter.
So my question is if you keep a ongoing indoor compost pile how do you keep the ratios of nitrogen and carbon correct. Now that I am adding to the pile I am not getting the heat like I did in the first round. I am guessing ratio s off.
Add greens till it heats back up you can also add sugar pee water as a kick start
Think of it as your feeding microbes not making compost maybe that will help you on your journey
I think My bin is getting there, already filled 3 times and volume descreased to less than half the bin.
Soon I will need to place more weeds Iām going taking out of garden soā¦ going well.
Just made the mistake of placing some twigs on the bottom and now they are getting every where so I need to remove them by hand every now and then.
Every week, for many years now, in an old Vita Mix, I inherited, I add 3 cups of water in the hopper. Just yesterday!
I then add stuff we collect under the sink, in a dedicated bucket, all our vegetable peeling, egg shells, anything that over ripens, or items we just do not like, into the collecting bucket.
I call the slurry dinosaur vomit.
We usually produce about 2-4 gallons of the DV, per week to 10 days of collections.
I then take that back to the compost area, where I used some garden wire to make a bin, about 4ā x 4ā x 4ā all my grass cuttings, weeds, ornamental clippings, the DV, I even save some thin branches when I cut to many, for layering later on.
I have a bag for my mower, to collet all I can of our leaves that will also go in the bin.
Every time we finish a milk carton, or rinse out cans of food, it all gets saved and poured back into the bin. Water that cooked pasta, is full of stuff.
I do not add any cooking oils, or bone, as it just seems draws rodents.
I got a subscription to Mother Earth News, like the late 70ās early 80ās or so, it set my mind on fire, how much goodies we throw away.
Added 1/4 cup sugar in ro water to keep the microbes fed. Hopefully that keeps it alive until I get more green leaf.
Check out bokashi bucket composting for indoorsā I have only done compost outside
That pile is cookin! Lol I wanted to show you so if it happens to you you know what to do, I put way to much N/ green stuff and this is only 3 days after putting it together but itās got 3/4of a small truck bed of chicken manure so that being said Iāll tell you how I keep it from going bad/anaerobic , first you turn it move it from one side to the other that way it all gets turned over then if you put way to much N like I did instead of piling it up spread it thin donāt pile it no higher than a foot high what that does is allows bookoo oxygen in there and it will go cold leave it like that for a day or 2 then pile it back up and it will start cooking again but thatās good you just got to check it every day or 2 and when it gets so hot you stick your hand In It and it so hot it feels like it burns ya itās gotta be turned I hope that helps edit you can also add browns like brown leaves, paper, wood chips, twigs ect low N products will also slow it down/cool it down
Yup bokashi is really good stuff, bokashi = worm castings/purple nonsulfer bacteria, bakers or brewers yeast and LAB mixed in a bucket with wheat mill as a food source with a lid on bucket you add water till it gets moist bout 50% moist enuff were you can take a handful squeeze it and it doesnāt hold together let it sit 4 weeks and itās ready to use. Wheat mill is 15$ for a it 50lb bag
Yeah I think at least 4-5 folks mentioned labs and bokashi I was just being a bit lazy. I am going to commit to giving it a go through because it is currently composting but not to the speed of degree I want it to.
Bokashi is cool shit. I didnāt make mine I ordered it but I put it on my living soil notill from time to time. Breaks down leaf trimmings and such pretty quick.
I do both I
Ok if you have 20$ go to your local co-op/feed store and get a 50lb bag of soybean mill thatāll get it jumping for ya and you can also get a CPL bags of cotton seed mill itās bout 12$ a bag and itās a little bit higher in phos and just add it to what you got layer it in till you get the temp you are looking for and when it cools down just add more layering it in turning it as you go now you are going to need to check it everyday till you figure it out on how much you need to turn it to keep it from going anaerobic you just need to watch it more but you can do it
Bokashi is just easier you donāt have to turn it
And I put LAB in my bokashi they feed on the yeast and the fiber in the wheat mill
I live in a rural area so we have a few feed stores. What is CPL bag?
Thanx alot.
It depends on how big a pile youāre trying to do? Ya know, k hereās a ratio you can do like a 3:1 cotton seed mill: soybean mill, the soybean is pretty high in N And the cotton seed mill is not necessary high in phosphorus itās just low N itās like a 0.5/3/?3 I think on the potash I donāt remember pumpkin seed mill if you can find it you can do it 1:1 but I havenāt found it yet the pumpkin seed is a phosphorus accumilater but tis the season just gather a bunch of pumpkins and dig out seed dry and blender blue from Maine does this thing called avocado tech if you get a chance check it out itās pretty cool he composts right in his beds but he has a high wormpopulation but heās making stuff plant available in 7-10 days Iām sure heās on IG just search avocado tech itās a different technique than what we are talking about but he uses pumpkin seed and itās pretty damn cool too lol
I am just using dirt to do some momās for clones. I run rdwc for veg and flower.
Just want something easy and light on nutes. The composting is really just to take care of leaf and root disposal.
To each his own but your momās will love you for it so just get a bag of each mix it up you will have some soy left over for your next batch :)phos is good for lateral branching
