Crypto Mining Rigs

Hey all, just thought that I would share my alt coin miner. If anyone else has one to share, please do!

Rig on top shelf consists of:

Asrock pro BTC- 13 gpu mobo
6 Currently connected

2 4gig memory sticks (RGB just because)

Intel G3930 processor

2 800w EVGA Power supplies

Purchases for about 2k in early 2021, ROI took about 3 1/2 months. It’s basically just a money mint 24/7… My first rig 5 years ago would only run two, so I decided to do a little investing! Well worth the investment.

I kept reading that the ROI wasn’t covering electricity anymore…
So what’s the real deal with these rigs?

Cheers

Op, how many Watts are you using for that?

I would love to have a real mining rig. I just have 3 gaming computers running at the moment (1070, 2070, 3080) so its not as efficient as it could be. But honestly my house is mainly heated during the day by the mining/growing I am doing right now lol. Heater only starts popping on a little after the 4x4 tent goes to sleep. Then it pops on a little more after the other tents go to sleep.

Yeah. I’ve read the same thing multiple places too. That the only way to make it worth it, is to mine some of the less popular lightweight coins. And even then… it’s barely any ROI after utility costs

Its not horrible. The mining I do ends up paying for all the power for the house, computers and 4 grow tents every day at the least unless 1-2 miners get shut off because we are playing some games or something.

@Gpaw NiceHash.com has a handy little tool that will calculate profits for particular mining gear, as in graphics cards or dedicated miners like the Antminer that mines BTC. Those miners are basically paper weights after a while, but graphic cards can be used by gamers and tend to hold their resell value.
You can no longer mine BTC with a computer you must have a ASIC miner (Antminer), the difficulty is far too high for any computer to be able to generate a coin.
Alt coins can be mined still, mostly Ether! So by mining the most profitable alt coins, you can transfer those coins into BTC. Super simple, NiceHash takes care of everything with their program.

NiceHash is very effective for beginners, super simple and reliable. ROI is all calculated for each piece of hardware, and electricity can be included in that calculation.

@Grapefruitroop The total number of watts being used is about 6-800 watts depending on my settings for each card. I overclock each card with MSI Afterburner, and then I bring down the power draw on each card to maximize profits.

@bassman5420 Yes indeed, these baby’s put out some heat. My cats love to stay in the room with it because of the warmth. I could help you set one up if you ever wanted to. Most mobo’s allow for up to 4 graphics cards now a days!

@firehead While it may not generate as much as anyone would like, it is def still profitable depending on you’re hardware costs. The Profitability Calculator from NiceHash will tell you everything you need to know. I’ve made about 5g total this year with just 6 graphics cards, after paying off my investment! Now I could even sell the rig and get my money back from it! Pretty cool stuff! :green_heart:

If GPU’s were cheaper and more available I would buy a few and make a dedicated mining rig for sure. Earlier this year when I got this 3080, I was forced to buy a whole new PC (not necessarily a bad thing lol) 3080’s were going for 1800-2500 at the time, so 2600 for an epic PC I customized was not a bad deal then. Had to get it prebuild from cyberpowerpc (I always build my own…) but I customized it to save money and maximize performance since this thing needs to be able to game like a beast.

Yeah prices went crazy with the chip shortage.
I was actually able to get GPUs from EVGA at retail price through their website. They will put you in line to purchase as they come available, only issue is the hash rate limiter Nvidia did to help gamers get cards due to them being bought up from miners. eBay can be a good place sometimes, but you have to be careful of the seller. I was able to get 3 1070ti’s for about 2-250 each. Last time I checked they were going for 400+ so I got pretty lucky. I got a 3060 from EVGAs website for about 400 shipped, but it took 4 months to get the purchase email. I think when cards are more available I will build a few more!

Damn that’s not too bad for the 3060. Would love to run 4+ of them in a rig.

Log onto EVGA and get in line bud! I can’t show up to Best Buy every Tuesday hoping to get a drop, I work for a living! It may take a bit but it’s well worth it. I know there will be a work around soon for the cards that are hash rate limited.

I may look into it actually. Ya there are small workarounds for the LRH at the moment, but I assume someone will get them fully unlocked soonish.

I stumbled upon this thread from two years ago, and man, your alt coin miner setup sounds pretty awesome! The Asrock pro BTC- 13 GPU mobo, 6 connected GPUs, and those snazzy RGB memory sticks must have made your rig look killer. And with the Intel G3930 processor and 2 800w EVGA power supplies, you had some serious mining power at your disposal. By the way, have you ever checked out www.moonbitcoins.com? They might have had some cool features and insights back then, and you could have explored some handy tools to maximize your mining profits. Give it a shot and see what they had to offer during that time.
