Defoliation-How did I do?

This is an BadAzz Cookies (Thks for the freebies, Seedsman) before defoliation. Been in flower tent approx 3 days growing in 3 gallon fabric pot of kind soil w/ roots organic and watered with spring water (Walmart).

Then I did this>

So I would appreciate any advice or comments. Spent over 40 years working in construction field so the more direct the comments the more I will appreciate your insights. Thick skinned, old, gristly, and tough to get through to. Yep the wife would agree.

It depends on your goals.

I train to end up with 6-8 tops per plant.

I trim lower branches to accomplish this.

I defoliate to improve airflow and eliminate dead spots through the canopy.

Your plant appears to have been defoliated.
Maybe a bit more than I would do but I’m sure it’ll be fine.

I grew like that for many years, I love stumbling upon others that also grow like this. Your going to be fine, just dial back on your N for a few days on your feed.

I like your approach. :+1:
That’s a novel use of skewers, I’ll keep an eye out for some the next time I’m in the dollar store.

In 3 days time you’ll question if you did anything
Keep at it, you’re looking good!

That’s exactly what I’d do! I’d do it again at the 2 week mark as well, but that’s just me! I like an easy trim and lots of light to my lower nugs :relaxed:

Looks fine to me, you should see some of my earlier defos, I thought for sure she was a goner, 4 days later she was right back to square 1 with new sights and new vigour. Although you may run into strains that despise LST and just won’t respond properly, ive found most do just fine, maybe even love it ….

@Foreigner - Right now my goal is just trying to find “my grow”. I. e what works for me. Hobbyist grower just over a year. I took Donnie’s covid stimulus money and in vested in a Amazon Cannibis Kit like everyone else. So I am just trying to learn some new skill, have fun and avoid as much daytime tv as I can. Also I am on disability and am no longer able to work. The growing is the Major part of the therapeutic aspect, the smoking eases the joints. The growing engages the mind

@Gpaw yeah those skewers are something I ve been playing with. I assume I stole from someone but I have not been able to find it when I went back to read back up on it. The closest I came was Light Addict’s book on fluxing. The talked about keeping the plant tied down low ands flat (“keeping plant under stress). So just effing around I started looking at at plant as a “see-saw”. I center the skewer over the main stem to balance the plant. As it grows out I use 1/16” dia welding rods to tie down the branches parallel to the ground. The rod is placed between the skewer and the branch and balanced in a see saw manner. As it grows out tje down the branches. The branches that are perpendicular Light Addict removed, Another grow style suggested to remove only the stem headed downward. I am still undecided on this aspect. Any way if this is something “new” I have been calling it “Free Floating LST” after the ancient Chinese covered bridges using what is called a “Woven Beam” roof system See somethings can be learned from daytime TV. The idea behind this is to keep the area under the plant open for water and maintenance. Note adjusting just the end of the skewer can be used to level the canapy in a lot of instances. I was going to work out some of kinks before I mentioned on the site, but you noticed and I’m sure others can improve on this. I don’t consider this a technic for all plants. Works best when plant has a balanced structure ( sorry brain fart preventing an intelligent sounding word from replacing awkward description. One other thing I prefer using the smallest diameter rod to run between main stem and branches to minimize bending.

Thank you all for your comments.

Anyone have experience the a plant with very tight internodal spacing. I have growing a Cream Caramel that I have been “trimming” as a means of defoliation. When I say “trim” I am talking like you trim at harvest. I liked what I found underneath just a mother to grow. I suspect she still has 3-4 weeks. Take a look.

For me personally, I started following some training guides online and then after I did it a few times I learned how the plant grows out when I did certain training techniques. Over time you will learn what is best for your style and grow space. Also, each plant grows differently and you’ll see and learn that also. I feel like what you’ve done here is great but you may find that next time you grow you might not need to spend so much time tying all the branches back or maybe this works out very well for your space and you’ll repeat it. I’m also still learning and for my particular space I have found that a combo of LST and super cropping with a 4-6 week veg time with photoperiod plants works best. It’s all trial and error… I defo when the humidity becomes an issue and like to bend the tallest stems back. I’ve noticed that this helps the plant bush out a lot better.

TLDR; My main point I’m trying to convey is that what you’ve done here looks great but I would suggest experimenting with different training techniques until you find the one that works best for the specific plant, your space and grow style.

@NorthNorthNugs yep you get it. I am trying to dial in the “grower”( me) not the grow. I read different grow guides and grow diaries and following them step by step got me in trouble. My fault, my grow I take total responsibility for what happens to my grow. So I abandoned keeping a grow diary as I found that I was just following someone else’s direction. I keep track of certain dates when it sprouted, topped, flipped and when breeder states it will finish. The breeders finish date is just my “be on the lookout”, as I assume it be be at least 2 weeks longer. But I will on alert to watch.

Just me personally but I would not be trimming like that, the plants need their leaves to collect energy so they can feed. You seem to be taking off many of the solar panels which will do more harm than good IMO. The defoliation looked good in your first post but I think you may be getting a little over zealous with this one.
