Cleaning and disinfecting is always a good idea but root aphids do not go to an egg stage indoors from what I’ve found researching them. Remove all the plants, soil with roots and they will disappear rather quickly. You just need to be really careful with any snips of material you take elsewhere. For guys running seed just take a break in between runs. Easy peasy. Stay out of the grow room while rooting cuts (if you’re doing so).
I will say 8 times out of 10 when someone tells me they have root aphids they’re either fungus gnats or beneficial soil mites. You really need a loupe or microscope to ID them.
Yes, those are root aphids, they are tenacious little demons from hell that are really hard to get rid of without cleaning out the space fully, by cloning out and, trashing the mother stock… I fought them multiple times since the early 90’s and they were one of the hardest pests to get rid of… without cloning out or using hardcore pesticides. As Cru mentioned, cleaning out and taking a break is the best (non-broad-spectrum-insecticide) approach. I always use Beauvaria, but RA’s grow and have babies so quickly that Beuvaria Bassinia alone doesnt have a long enough time to infect and kill them before they reproduce, even if it does kill the older ones so they can’t continue to! Peroxide kills larvae, but not eggs nor adults!
Yes, you can use it safely in flower. When I had them I rotated Botanigard and Azamax drenches and haven’t seen any since and I’m still using the same soil.
