Truly incredible garden!!
Thanks for these tomato seeds and awesome drawing. @Nick !
Wow they arrived quickly - thanks for the Old German Tom Seeds too - Happy growing
First two apples from the orchard planted last spring. Out of 20 only one dead tree. It started dead. Were just waiting to replace it.
Awesome @Pawsfodocaws glad to see your hard work starting to pay off. In a few years your gonna have an amazing amount of apples.
Got the Garlic planted today! After the photo, i pushed these 3" deep into the soil.
4x4 box filled and some spill over near the blackberry bush. The sprouted ones are some softneck that we planted in the middle of summer, we are leaving them in the ground till all the other garlic is ready…
Cant wait for this harvest!
We also kinda insulated the Blueberrys (untill i get some tree leaf mulch)
Got some last minute Radishes growing.
The Strawberries are doing their thing, still gotta winterize them still.
PS. HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL (1 DAY EARLY) we seen these locals today!
Thanks @CADMAN its really isawesome. Technically its my daughters orchard and i have had plans for it to put down and planted for 5 years.
Its a fun treat to get a couple apples first season
You’ll have to post your scape harvest from the garlic next Spring. Garlic scapes are tasty as all get out and I have never seen them in the grocery stores.
I will for sure. Ive also never grown any garlics before
Just cleaned mine up today from the storm. Bent my four panels of trellis and two ten foot steel plant poles. Have to get some real poles and concrete this week, so I don’t have to deal with that again. Haha. I love them though.
They’re seasonal, as you say. I expect that the Berkeley Bowl will have them again in the spring.
I would mulch with straw , a couple inches until they come up and maybe then some more. Which zone are you ? Also they wont need food during winter.
@Hashpants im gonna use a thick layer of leaf mulch, when enough falls off the trees.
Im on the border of zone 5B & 6A.
When i picked up the Garlics from the local farms, I asked them for growing advice, most of them said the same thing.
Wait till Thanksgiving (Tomorrow), plant cloves (pointy end up) at a thumbs depth deep (3") cover with mulch and walkaway lol
In spring remove mulch & toss on compost. Then wait .
Can you get straw for the Strawberries.
Thanks man im itching to get some garlic starts like you but i have no idea where or how ergh garlic is my favorite!.
You rule @CADMAN your a very positive dude!
I just looked it up i found where to get bulbs!
Love all of the tips and advice in here. I’ll be getting beds setup for next year. Definitely helps scrolling through here. Tough to narrow down what to grow. Haha.
@Pawsfodocaws go search Facebook marketplace for “Garlic” your looking for HARDNECK Garlic, Any type from local farms or even the store.
I collected:
Red Russian hardneck Garlic
Music Hardneck Garlic
Purple Striped Hardneck Garlic
Porcline Hardneck Garlic
Paid about $10 a lb (3 to 4 bulbs) (Costly stuff, but you only need to buy once, ever! )
Take each blub apart, into cloves, leave as much skin on as possible, but also dont worry about it coming off. The point is just dont strip all the protective skin off.
Take each clove (pointy end faceing the sky) Plant each clove 3" deep (in my area, where -30 is normal) if your winter is mild you could plant 2" deep and be ok…
Cover your freshly planted cloves under mulch, Straw, hay or leaves, Cant use woodchips or anything like that.
When spring arrives & ALL frosts are done for the year, remove mulch, drop down some good compost & let them grow.
After this, all ya gotta do is learn when the scapes come, how to use them & when to harvest & cure your new bulbs.
Since we all grow Cannabis, Im positive ANYONE can grow Garlic…
The BEST part is this, Example:
Ive planted 125 cloves today, which = 125 new bulbs next summer. So if I take just half of my harvest, plant it back in the ground, as i just described, I will never ever need to buy Garlic again for the rest of my life! Providing I continue to do this repeatedly!
IF ANYONE HERE GROWS GARLIC, PLEASE CHIME IN!
Hell yes thank you @cadman we are big on garlic. And i cant wait to do what your doing there man. I have a bed ready, just needs to be weeded. Pulled a single super cayenne yesterday and done. No more tomatoes nothing lol.
Ohh brother, i cant wait to see what you do too. All i know is im getting a dehydrator & making lots of Garlic powder so i can enjoy it all year long, untill the next harvest…
PS. Hardneck Garlic is BIG on flavor
