IF you guys/gals have the ability, Get tree leaves & dump them on your gardens!
Pros:
Usually Free
Sheilds soil/plant roots from cold weather
Breaks down and turns into mulch/compost and provides essential nutrition to your soil.
Builds up the physical soil level.
Essential in “fixing” almost any soil condition.
Cons:
Not enough tree leaves
Not enough people use as a garden advantage
A nearby neighbor had this at the roadside & was happy to give them away!
I covered all my beds with leaves and filled my compost bins all the way up between leaves and pumpkins. One of the compost bins had to be moved so I just shoveled everything back in to it an hour ago and noticed it was actually steaming in the middle.
So since a few people here got some free 20g sized samples of: (posted in my other thread)
Whice lists the ingredients as:
Rhizophagus Irregularis
Glomus Mosseae
95% inert media
Im gonna try to use this little sample and grow MORE of it to use widely though the vegetable garden & Cannabis plants in the spring! Winter = research & plan building to take action in the spring.
Not entirely sure how to multiple this, but thats what reading is for.
Also Im VERY interested in breeding Black Soldier fly larvae, for multiple reasons.
I have 40 or 50 bags of rabbit poo/hay. In black bags composted. Im planing on getting a hole dug and filling the pit. I collect leaves and all scraps go to the small compost. But i have a ton of rabbit stuff. Its all getting used. Fuck yes go wabbits!
Got 380 garlic in That’s enuff but I may not be done, still debating that with myself. I got this one compacted bed I may plant with garlic, harvest and then re-plant in beans. Garlic isn’t a bad first crop, they may not do as well as garlic but by the time you harvest your bed has been improved enough for beans. After the beans the bed is good
Turnips, yeah I can see that. I’m using Daikon radishes in 2 small beds also, first time. Supposed to pull up nutrients from deep and then winter kill and rot, leaving a more airy soil along with the nutes. We shall see how that works out next year. I used sprouting seeds I had…they will grow full size daikons too.
