Anyone ever used Gibberilic acid to help stretch a plant?. I lost pretty much all of my plants to wild hogs but I do have the little stubby growth on the bottom. I’m wanting to reveg them and thought maybe Gibberilic acid would help. Does anyone here ever used gib for stretching?
i have indeed used ga3 for variety of reasons. its a great tool to create a bunch of sudden, bush type growth. not only will the existing branches stretch, youll get an insane amount of extra branches just popping up everywhere. i usually thin out the growth to leave a nice bonsai tree structure. its a fantastic tool if youre trying to reshape a plant.
in the context of what youre aiming to achieve though id say skip it. its not going to help you much. you cant really kick her back into flower for at least another 6 weeks after you spray so its more a tool for reshaping than a tool for explosive growth
edit: to clarify, if you try and put her into flower soon after exposure she will push nanners. you probably wont want that
I soaked some seeds in Gibberillic acid try to germinate some old stock. The 2 that grew ended up mutating horribly… like 5 ft tall in less than 3 weeks without branches. Kinda cool. As far as spraying, haven’t tried it.
GA3 caused a significant decrease in sperm count and the percentage of live sperm. The decrease in sperm count and percentage of live sperm in rats treated with GA3 were attributed to testosterone and ALP activity.
Tha fuck.
@sardinebags thanks man. I think I’m going to make a bonsai on another plant. How do you do it? Do you spray or root drench? That sounds cool as hell
@Gizmo that is gnarly
@itza419 whoa. Do you remember the ratio to soak seeds? I have some old beans that don’t sprout.
Good job you started this thread @Ronsonmatsuo4 , I just ordered some ga3 but solely for the purpose of germinating old seeds.
So glad you said that! I usually veg my plants for 2 or 3 weeks tops. If I hadn’t read this I would germinate them only to f@#*&Ng herm them all shortly after
On the other hand, is that a “might happen” or a “will happen”?
Meaning can this be reliably used to obtain female pollen?
That’s good info @sardinebags, thanks for sharing.
I’ve used GA3 to crack old seeds and for a few reversals but in both cases I experienced the abnormal growth others have mentioned.
The best outcome I had was with a very low concentration, about 10 ppm, way lower than the 100+ppm I read in the literature.
What concentration levels do you use?

There used to be a great product that contained a amount of ga3 (which i wont mention the name of) which was made for use mainly during the flower period but could also be used in pre flower too. Used mainly when the flowers were set it would cause the buds to stretch out creating space between each site. You would then in late flower add your later flowering additive so all the bud would puff out and basically fill in the gaps. The product used to work very well and would make it look like you had quite a bit more bud. Don’t think its available in the same form no more.
@NIGHTMARE wow that sounds cool.
i use 50ppm (50mg/ml). its great for
- germinating old seeds
- reshaping mother plants into a more desirable shape, especially for bonsaai
- reversing females (less predictable than STS but if youre pollinating a whole room its easier)
my family does commercial avocadoes and i learned about it by watching our grove manager spray the trees down. they do it in the dormant season before any buds are set. when they do start to fruit, there is a night and day difference between the treated and untreated trees. easily a 20% increase in yield by weight, you get fewer overall fruits but the ones that do form are much larger and consistent. thats how you get your #20s that everyone sees in the store (#20 is the size and quality standard).
i thought it would increase my yields with buds but in reality its not really a yield booster for cannabis. its more useful to keep around in your toolbox of approaches
