Growroom Setup Suggestions

Hello OG members. I’m an old head here but lost my old credentials but am back looking like a newb. A little background on me. I’ve grown for over 13 years and am setting up a 12’x10’ space and would like recommendations based on the constraints the Missouri Med system has in place. I’ve got experience with SOG, SCROG, flood and drain, drip and DWC. The last four years I’ve been unable to grow and lost touch with new tech and equipment.

Missouri restrictions:
I’m only allowed
6 clones under 12”
6 plants in veg
6 in flower

I’d like advice on partitioning the the 12’x10’ space. How much sqft should be dedicated to flower and veg to maximize yield with only having 6 plants in flower at anytime. Ceiling height is 8.5’

Current equipment:
2 magnetic ballast 600w HPS
1 magnetic ballast 1000w MH
1 5 light T5 light fixture (for clones)
CO2 regulator and tank
500cft 6” inline fan and CAN50 filter
Central Air
Dehumidifier

I’d love to hear your thoughts on how to segregate space. Whether I should get new lights and other equipment. I’d prefer to use soil but am open to hearing different soil applications that will align with the restrictions I have. Let me have it!

i would make your veg half the size of your flower- 40 sq. ft, 80 sq. ft. run sealed with your inline fan exchanging air between the two (youll want a second fan to accomplish this) so you dont have to deal with controlling the climate in two separate rooms. keep your co2 and dehumidifier in the flower room. your veg will probably be a little warmer, more humid, and less co2’d than your flower- i run like this and it works well. naturally, you will want a few oscillating fans for each room to keep air moving. look into setting up a second thermostat if you intend to run your central air for your rooms (talk to an hvac guy if you are as clueless about that sort of thing as i am). as for lights, i would sell what you have and update your arsenal. led or de is the way to go imo. 1 de in veg (dimmed down if necessary, i run my veg lights at 750w) and 2 in flower would do the trick, or you could diy some led fixtures. either option is good to go, and what you choose should depend on your initial budget and monthly upkeep budget. de costs more to run, and requires careful plant management with low ceilings, but nothing will out-yield it. led costs less to run (especially considering reduced need for a/c and dehumidifying, not to mention eliminating the need for bulb replacement), and may have comparable return margins after everything is said and done. as far as your medium goes, if you are going to do soil, go for no till so you dont have to deal with moving a bunch of soil around all the time. build a couple of beds, load them with soil+amendments, and just top dress them as needed. veg in smaller cloth pots so you can just pick them up and plant them in the beds in your flower. i prefer hydro for indoor, so i cant be of much help on soil construction, but there is plenty of good info about that across this forum and others. take your time with room design and setup, have fun with it. measure twice, cut once and all that. modifying a room with live specimens in it is a pain in the ass

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking a bed with Blumats but have always been concerned with limiting the spread of nematodes and other pests from infesting the entire soil. I’ll have to read some more about the DE and LED’s to see which way I should go.
