Help with SEED STARTING

It looks a decent plan, nice setup…

Always remember: best temperature for germ: 28 celsius
After they’ve popped I should open the dome, moisture in the air confuses the taproot.

100% coco in solos, mist with spray bottle multiple times daily if you are worried about bad tap water fill a couple milk jugs at an RO water station at walmart, put under light 30 or so inches away if led closer if its t5/cfl, make sure your growing environment is warm, ive lost 3 seeds out of the 50 or so ive popped in the last year, the higher the RH the better I shoot for 75-80 at all times, wont ever do anything else, good luck growmie

make sure you dont plant seeds too deep either, dont pat the coco down tightly above your seed, leave it loose, if you are a soil grower coco transplants to soil just fine, the paper towel method is an unnecessary extra step for no good reason other than seeing what seeds sprout first same with soaking, dont try to change the way things work in nature! Direct sowing is the way! Only way I would consider any of those extra steps is if I was germing old seeds.

Ok @Kasper0909 @shag @Dirt_Wizard & anyone else reading.

One plant reached the dome, so i transplanted them all over to this (MOIST NOT WET) Promix in Solo cups.

Question is, do they still need a dome over them, like a big ziplock, or are they fine exposed at this point? And should i have any airflow in tent at this point? They have been above ground maybe 36-48 hours now.

Keep them in the environment they’re going to grow in, so no dome or anything. Definitely get some air moving in there. Little fan on seedlings is a classic. Glad to see they’re up for you!

Yea perfect now, and yes to air flow in the tent. :vulcan_salute:

I never use a dome for seedlings or clones…

The seeds had it. I put the seeds in the plugs upside down. So the tap root came up, bent over & went back down into hole

Last 2 times I made it this far & they died. Hopefully this Promix keeps them alive better than the Happy Frog.

Cool @chronix I’ll go without the domes next run for sure :+1:

I do the same no dome. It always smells. Lol

Straight, happy, frog. I do like Coco Loco. It works very good for starting seeds. @Oldtimerunderground c99 cross

The router idea though is really interesting. I like it. Unconventional….

These went 4 days bone dry as I was just germ testing. I finally just dumped them on day 5, still looking just fine. Seedlings do not need very much water at all.

Correct if the shell is too watery, it will not open. When I lay them on my towel. I squeeze the extra water out all the time. To help reduce the moisture. @JohnnyPotseed I know he doesn’t get out and about much, but he likes using worm casting. @MoBilly I believe uses goat pooop. I think I have seen @Astrodude use aloe vera. I have seen that and have used it before. I didn’t have much luck out of it, but it did work with clones a little. I don’t have it down pat.

Man this Promix stuff dries out real quick & turns solid it seems in less than 48hrs.

Its already shrunk off the edges of the cup. I just gave the top a few mists of water around edges. Should I water it till it re-expands to edges though?

Or should I wait for seedlings to droop?

Never used promix but always found with seedlings less is best until they get a good root system going.

high 70’s low 80’s is ideal for germination. i have had a lot of fail to pop seeds with lower temps, because they need the heat to pop other wise they get water logged and rot.
as of late i have been having good luck with the float tech on heat mat.

Let it dry out but not completely. It looks good so just keep up what you’re doing.

I like Promix but when I’m potting I tend to make a depression so it forms a puddle/reservoir and give it a chance to absorb. Until then just water slowly :+1:

It’s allot harder to overerwater in that soil so you should have no worries. That being said they take very little water.

Yea it just seems to have turned into a solid brick around the seedlings & shrunk up. Like pulled away from cup sides by a solid 1/2 or 1/3rd inch… But i guess internally it could still be moist?

Watering is a freaking art-form.
