Hernia folks?

I have one now for 5 years, it’s a belly button one.
My question is if you have had surgery for it do you regret it?
I have a friend who has one now prolly 20.years
Never had surgery.
I know folks who have had surgery and regret it
The mesh causes problems
Becomes hard
If there is a emergency they will only operate
And then they have to go in from behind
Etc .
One woman told me just wait, she said if it gets bad
Then let them operate.
She said she wished she had waited, she’s had a lot of issues with mesh etc and said if it’s gonna cause you problems then get surgery because it’s not
All what it’s promoted to be.
I though I ask around here and gather opinions and thoughts
Thanks.

My bro had trouble with the mesh at first. They readjusted it, and he’s been good for decades.

I had the belly button surgery about 35 years ago and have never had a problem with it. I had two more hernia surgeries in the groin area a couple of years ago and I’m starting to get pain in the mesh area on one.

I had a hernia in my bellybutton a couple years ago. Had surgery to get it fixed. They didn’t use mesh, more like sewed me closed lmao.

I feel relatively normal and the scar is almost gone, but I sometimes get the feeling like something is missing or out of place inside. That might just be me though.

About a year after surgery, I started bleeding randomly from my bellybutton, went to ER and it had stopped. Haven’t had that issue since thankfully.

Well my belly never got any surgery but I would not say my guts are that strong. Haven’t experienced any issues with smoking, it rather helps with heavy food than does any damage

i got a hernia after getting my prostate out. i did a bong rip and coughed too hard and found that the prostate helps keep your guts in. mine was ok for about three months but started hurting so i got the mesh. it’s been a year now with no issues, but it was not the belly button, it was about two inches up from my groin on the right side. i can feel it every now and then but it doesn’t hurt or keep me from anything. but it’s only been a year. you will want to get it checked out to make sure it’s not the intestine coming out. mine was just fat and went back in easily. if yours in intestine and not fat i would get the mesh to avoid major problems like losing part of our guts or death.

That’s what happened to me, sitting there watching TV smoking a joint
Coughed and I felt it and looked down and was like
Great, another cluster fook

I have a buddy that has a hernia up above his belly.
His intestines are literally coming out.
He put off going to the doctor for an infection and blockage that nearly killed him.
Now he is dieting and waiting.
They won’t operate until he gets his weight down - he’s very obese.

I had a belly button hernia, and got the mesh about 20 years ago. Haven’t had a problem. Had a bunch of heart surgeries since, lvad and then a transplant. Now I have a hernia the size of a softball below my sternum. Need to get it fixed, but disability says I’m fine and I need to go back to work. So now I’ll go back to work, then go out on temporary disability to get it fixed.

I have had a few hernia repairs. First one was done about 15 years ago. This one was repaired with an open surgery. I sometimes have a small amount of pain from the mesh. I usually don’t feel it, and when I do feel it the pain is a very low level.

More recently I had a hernia repair near my belly button. This one was a laparoscopic surgery, meaning robot-assisted and smaller cuts. My recovery was easy-peasy compared to the first surgery. Again, there is some occasional low level pain from this mesh but even less than from the first surgery.

None of my doctors ever said “we’ll only repair it if it’s an emergency.” Each time they recommended a surgery to fix it before it becomes a bigger problem. Hernias do not get better on their own.

Doctors?
Bwahahaha
I know they usually know their shit
I also know some of them are dumb as dirt.
They will always recommend their services
As they want your money.
When I did not have Insurance they told me
Just wait lol
Now they want to give me plastic surgery
Im.kidding
Now, when I was diagnosed with to many platelets
They put me on rat poison, hydroxyurea.
Over time, say 20 years that medicine causes
DNA to break down, in another words the chances
Of developing a aggressive killer cancer were very high.
Additionally they told me if I refused the meds
I die of heart attack or stoke.
That was in 1996.
I’m still here, last time they checked my blood
The platelets were high, went to oncologist
He tested me a week later and they were normal.
I do respect them most times bit make no mistake
They Practice medicine, Not perfected it.
But really you should try taking to them
Uninsured, all those silly problems aren’t
That dangerous
Toker rolls eyes.
Anyway that’s why I made this, I want to hear
Others experiences.
I know a guy who has same as me, bigger to
Like a golf ball size or more whos not had anything
Done in 20 plus years.
From what i have read here im leaning to.getting it done in several months.

in 2018 had some free health care in 14 days was sent home with a suction pump that went directly inside me via a plastic tube 2nd day home it plugged up went to er waited for a surgeon that never came in a timely fashion was there at 10am saw him at 830 pm pressure built up and bad things happened had 40 staples in my stomach blew a few out without pain meds as i had not seen the surgeon long story short that aug my doc said i have several hernias surgery was set up then covid hit and we closed our hospitals for some reason 27 months later i got a new date but the several had turned into one big one i was cut from bottom of the ribs to the belt buckle now i have a belly full of plastic i can fell it with every move i make not a fun time i go every 3 month to a pain clinic for shots they work great for a bout 4 weeks if you are in Canada do not go to a hospital for a hernia they have clinics sholdice i think in TO go to were the specialists i shit you not i would tell to take it out but i spent 27 months trying to hold my guts in with tenser bandages and one of those elastic belts

Had an inguinal hernia, most common type (the crotch one).

Got the surgery. Even the minimal invasive laparoscopic surgery hurts like hell for a long time after. A cat walking across my lap still kinda hurt over a year later, maybe from scar tissue idk.

That was about 5 years ago and I have no regrets. Hernia drove me nuts with the constant aching and burning feeling. Feels fine and thankfully have no issues whatsoever. I’d recommend it, if it’s bugging you.

Absolutely! Anything’s better than intestines trying to pop out all the time.

I’ve had the umbilical hernia (belly button) and an epigastric hernia (above the belly button)
I had them both “fixed” at the same time. They still cause a lot of pain, even when I am just laying in bed it can feel like I am getting stabbed. It is actually more painful then before I even had the surgery.
I’ve noticed I got a bulge to the right side of the big scar from the surgery, so I gotta get an ultrasound on that to see whats going on.

4 hernia surgeries here, 2 mesh and two ‘oldschool’.
The ‘mesh’ heals faster, less pain and has been perfect long term, 9 years so far.
Get a ‘pinch’ from the oldschool versions from time to time but no issues.
IMHO, just do it and get it behind you, endured a lot of grief before I went ‘under’ the knife.
Laparoscopy is your friend…

I would hope not. You run the risk of a strangulated intestine.
