Ideal humidity to avoid foxtails

I actually stopped following vpd in my veg because they were getting bigger faster than I needed them to.

We enter in a dangerous zone where preferences are driving choices ^^ Better to lurk a bit my grow log until the next harvest, then discuss a little inside about it ;o)

Fwiw, I grow outdoors in 90+ Ā°F and <20% Rh, and ive never had foxtailing. . .

Thatā€™s what I was dealing with while it was also even worse outside. I couldnā€™t open a window :man_facepalming:t2:
Iā€™m glad I avoided any mold or issues due to it.

Sorry so late with pics. Been a long day.

Thatā€™s exactly what a strong one looks like. Like a Foxā€™s tail. Hence the name. Nice and fluffy looking too. I was pretty sure the term came from a combination of both if you consider them different.

The buds on her are pretty darn solid, but sheā€™s got fox tails on almost all her buds. I donā€™t know if this is a genetic trait being that it was a G-13 haze male used to create it, and alot of hazes I grew before would often fox tail, or itā€™s because my temps have been at 82 for a month now because weā€™ve had a hot humid summer. Supposed to be 90* tomorrow and thunder storms for the rest of the week. :flushed:

Itā€™s cooled off significantly tonight. Definitely helped the house to cool off and letā€™s the AC keep the grow room closer to temp.
With my tallest plant I see what is either foxtails or extremely close bud sites. Her last nodes she made are very close together even after stretch.

Who knows if itā€™s genetic or not. I have no way to know. I guess I could send a sample to a lab, but past that Iā€™ll have no clue

Itā€™s 75* and 64% Rh at 2:15am in my neck of the woods. Itā€™s seems like Iā€™ve been running to acā€™s constantly for the past 3 months! I donā€™t even look at the electric bill anymore. :astonished:

Now that itā€™s cooler overall Iā€™m seeing 80 in the grow room and 75 around the house. I have the AC set in 70. I had to point it away from the girls again. I saw fallen red hairs around bud sites. Only on the side where the AC hit the plants directly. Iā€™ll have to find a better option. Maybe a couple of clip on fans at my local Walgreens or something. I could probably salvage my PC fans too.:man_shrugging:t2:

Although the vpd chart is not cannabis specific it is a great starting point to temp and humidity. Thatā€™s why cannabis grows better in places like say Columbia Better than in place like Antarctica. Cannabis likes the environment it likes so try hard to give it to them. That being said I like to lower humidity mid flower till harvest to prevent bud rot mold etc. the fox tailing shows up in some strains more than others and is usually a symptom of increased light and heat stressing the plant. Iā€™ve noticed personally when using high uv lamps and leds Fox tailing seems to increase even under cooler temperatures.

Interesting. Is there a ideal intensity for UV light? I need to move mine up higher than the rest of the lights. They donā€™t pass the hand test.

Thatā€™s a great question I do not know but Iā€™ll try to look into it. Growmau5 on YouTube has a great experiment up where he tries to implement a uvb bulb for a couple hours a day to supplement his leds. The plants got totally fried and fox tailed out due to the UV.

Interesting. I did notice strong improvement in trichomes after I added mine. I have them on all day though. Only the sativa looking one seems to be foxtailed. Also the frostiest, so Iā€™m not quite sure what I prefer rn.

Yup, G13 hybrids are well known to end ā€œfoxtailedā€.

If I remember right, uvb should be no more than 10% of your total lighting. Anything more will cause problemsā€¦

I definitely noticed more fox tailing since switching to led. My overall temps have been cooler and I still see fox tailing. Hasnā€™t really bothered me since my bud density has seemed to increase since the switch also.

Thanks for the tip. First time growing anything with G-13 in it.

What should I use as the 10% basis?
Though Iā€™m not sure if it would matter with my setup. I have very uneven lighting. I didnā€™t grow prepared this time. If I didnā€™t Iā€™d still be waiting to grow my first plants.

Iā€™m just happy I finally started. 2 years of trying to save up when I live check to check wasnā€™t easy or possible. I had to start to sacrifice food and luxury to start, but at least I finally started and now the main costs are taken care of. I canā€™t wait to use the tent in a few weeks and see if it helps next grow. I canā€™t use it right away, but I can get it setup to be used ASAP. Iā€™ll kill the pests before I have a closed system for them to infest. Damn fruit flies are my biggest nuisance rn. The gnats arenā€™t even really around anymore. Theyā€™re almost gone. My fpj seems to actually be helpful in pest control. At least Mine anyways. I see less bugs overall. I see the leaves turn a darker shade after a couple of foliar sprays and a watering with the fpj and megacrop in it.

Overall Iā€™m happy! Damn things were overtaking my house. Thereā€™s no food waste around my house. Just Surprises from my dog in corners I have to wonder how she managed sometimes. I should trust this nose. if I smell it itā€™s there. Doesnā€™t matter if I see it.

Again if I remember correctly, the 10% was based on wattage not par or ppfd.
Now if it was me I would start low (1 reptile bulb) then add another each subsequent cycle (especially if Iā€™m growing the same cultivar continuously).
The reptile bulbs seem to be a decent place to start for uvb.
Glad you got set up and running, I too have had to sacrifice a lot to get this far, but thatā€™s life, rarely does anything good come without sacrifice.
Just starting back I wouldnt be concerned with uvb right nowā€¦ focus on getting that harvest, then make adjustments to the environmentā€¦ (can you tell Iā€™m all about the grow environment?) Then add in the extras.
But you got it man, do your thang.
