Impromptu breeding and other degeneracies

Pin the bag to a wall so the sprout :seedling: tap roots point down. So much better than flat plate with curling tap roots.

That works man? I’ll give it a try. my last pop the tap root dug in harder than what usually happens. It kinda made for a small issue but the weed won.
I’ll try…

@Mithridate I don’t think there’s one post from you where you didn’t have me laughing out loud.

Thanks for all the early morning laughs, brother!

Plants are looking great. :potted_plant:

~3 weeks old is where i find plants start to show a preview of things to come, as in which pathway theyre principally using and where smells start to be more defined.

Each line so far have their stand outs, some lines only a couple, while others most plants are interesting.

Possible match could look like this…

This (HPxNL#7)x88g13hp has a very sour nose to it already. Inherited from the hpnl side, of course. #7 was the loudest by far from that hunt.

Then this skunk from a lettered batch is heading towards smelling quite foul. Funnily enough, the mom wasn’t amongst the most odorous and barely reached 2ft outdoors. This baby is top5 most vigorous to date. Go figure.

Bully

Mom (sept 2nd, ~35 days into flower)

Now as tradition goes, since i like these 2, they will probably show male .

No matter their sex, breeding procedure remains unchanged.

  1. self both cuts
  2. hunt S1’s and select a few choice specimens for homozygosity from each line.
  3. test cross (1xa, 1xb, 1xc, 2xa, 2xb. Etc.)
  4. hunt f1s
  5. inbreed winning cross to f4 (maybe😅)

“Winning cross” to me doesnt necessarily equate to stability. Im really trying to find the cross with the highest quality however uncommon it is in the line instead of the usual better average wins.

Ie: cross1 has plants whose quality varies from 6/10 to 8/10 and cross2 quality varies from 2/10 to 11/10. For breeding purposes, ill pick cross2. Everytime.

Interlude…

Got a couple of these chairs…

They were affordable and look alright.
Lemme tell you something.
I build high end houses for a living and these just about pissed me off. Nothing lined up. Sloppy fucking manufacture. I had to talk myself out of throwing them out the window for a minute lol.

Anyway. Theyre comfy. :innocent:

Endless soil mixing, pot filling and plant sowing

At that point i was tired and about to call it a night. But with so much to do, i made some coffee.

Listening to music so far had been enjoyable but i needed some change in pace so decided maybe a video might break the monotony, nothing too captivating… something mildly interesting maybe

Yup thatll do it

Then was time to uppot plants to square 5.5" and round 6" pots…

Ie

I mixed a big batch of nutrients in the bath and dunked my bucket to refill when needed. No need to mix 12 batches.

Also got racks 5 and 6

To do list:
Build the last rack and cover it in panda
Install carbon filter
Build doors

But first… a break :slightly_smiling_face:

Hehe, I love that film.
Can’t believe that I’ve never watched the deleted scenes!

Unfortunately, that movie is probably where we’re headed as a society. :grimacing:

… more skunks

This time i chose individual mothers with the added criteria to have been in the vicinity of the lone “male” in the patch.
They could be x to autosome… I need to better understand what im dealing with here before inbreeding.

Can you spot it ?

First round about to go into flower

Second round

A good watering and im done for today.

You guys think they are ready to flip?

Do you usually flip at this size? They look very healthy and uniform.

Most are too big honestly. Thats about where i flip them usually. Yeah. haha.
Each shelf is 24" high, the bigger plants are around 15" already.

I wanted to take cuts from a few things and i got a few tricks up my sleeves to mitigate stretch.

ie, by the time they hit stretch full steam, theyll most likely be root bound and thus limit stretch.

Tactical leaf removal can help, those kind of things. If i lose control i can also make the shelf taller

Ran across them a couple years back, a few landraces & lots of hybrids. They reminded me of a mini version of Ace Seeds.

The beans should be OK, l’d run them.
