That basically Sums it up just wondering blme and a friend were having a debate since a gallon of water weighs eight lbs we started wondering How much oil would weigh…I say about 14lbs…

A gallon. :speak_no_evil:

there are not enough variables to make the proper calculation.

In small amounts volume and weight are about equal, but a gallon? Like VM said, there’s a couple things you need for a proper calculation.
Are the cannabinoids in a hash form, where they still have the whole cuticle.
A raw extract with all the waxes and terpenes, and maybe some leftover solvent.
A squeaky clean shatter with >90% cannabinoids?

3785g in a gallon of water.
Best answer I can give is:
One gallon of Cannabis oil weighs = 0 < 3785 grams

No more no less

Oils float on water, so one gallon of oil will weigh less than a gal of water. How much less? No clue

I am going to say roughly 7.6 pounds. One cup 8 fl/oz weighs 7.6 ounces x 16 cups in a gallon is 121.6 ounces total divided by 16 ounces is 7.6 pounds give or take on the oil used. Peace OG

Well if somone has a Gram of oil… see howmany mL’s that is, multiply that by howmany mL’s in your gallon and that should give you howmany grams  but having said that, it would only be for that oil specifically as others have stated many variations and different forms of oil. When you say oil I think the thick black hash oil stuff like RSO , but somone else may think of infused olive oil! Im sure the RSO weighs much more than infused olive oil but hey i could be wrong !

This is like me saying this, and only this, hey guys, how fast will my car go if I use high octane gasoline?

I believe the coefficient is 0.98 grams/ml meaning a gallon is roughly 3.7 kilos. Or I just made that shit up.

Lmao. .98 would make a lot of sense because in small amounts volume and weight are effectively identical.

Looking online, hemp oil weighs 7.5 lb per gallon. Hemp is cannabis, so your answer is 7.5 lb. Which is close to some guesses above. And yes, oil floats on water, being a hydrocarbon. Since oil is less dense than water and floats on water, it weighs less than water per unit volume. Why is that you ask? Hydrocarbons have bonds between carbon and hydrogen atoms that are farther apart than the hydrogen and oxygen atoms in water molecules and the carbon and oxygen atoms in CO2. This is where the potential energy lies in oil. When you ‘burn’ oil, it oxidized with oxygen in the atmosphere and gives off heat energy, and forms water and CO2. The molecular distance is reduced when burning and forming water and carbon dioxide. Which is why you cannot ‘burn’ water, whereas you can burn oil in an O2 environment like we live in.

So go burn one!

i talk a different weight and mass language but. as said above oils are lighter than water meaning it has a lower specific gravity.

if you know what the specific gravity of the oil ( i am taking an educated guess at .9) then the jar of oil would weigh .9 times what the same jar of water would weigh. (water has a specific gravity of 1.0).

so a gallon of cannabis oil would weigh 0.9*8.34lb= 7.506lb all not taking into account temperature or altitude above sea level.
