What are your thoughts about the pictures of the universe? Have your thoughts about religion and life changed?

Not changed really, no. I already know we’re all less than ants to the universe.

This is a good opportunity to know in more depth how much more is out there though.

Thoughts disappear, words crumble, slow down, be here now.

we are like mice looking at a computer screen trying to understand how binary code works.

at least we get to watch the computer.

The universe is so big man it’s CRAZY. We aren’t the only sentient beings . No fen way. You’d be ignorant to believe that.

Just looks like boring old dots.

Seriously though it’s quite impressive. I think I will visit one one day.

My next dose of Golden Teachers I will gladly share my thoughts :metal:

That view is from a spot the size of a drinking straw in a 360x360 view. Almost everything you see is various Galaxies.
Yeah, tell me how were alone in the universe lol

Lol, they are dots. Not even a true colour image. Gonna take a lot more than an image to shake my worldview and/or religion.

I admire the artistic liberties they have taken with the picture though, cool colours.

Animals have long since offered us these same insights

@PhilCuisine the james webb is one of the clearest picture taking telescope in our history so far, really amazes me on how clear they take pictures, and we can see far far away. my idea about religion still the same, my take on life is still the same but now i think we have gotten much smaller in the aspect of dust in the wind.
we are so small in the big picture. i was hoping they would have discovered a plant with living beings on it though. we are lucky to be alive right now to see this in history that is for sure

Amazing images. Totally Stunning…

The thing I can’t get my head around is when it’s reported the photos of these stars and nebulas are how they looked a billion years ago or even more… I can’t understand that… Or is time travel really possible.

Amazing

It reminds me of taking a microscope and taking a closer look at things. No difference and as my usual conclusion from shrooms reminds me when i should have it drilled into me, we are here because its so much more interesting and fun than not being here. Take a look but mind bendingly its all the same and was always there.

… puff puff puff puff puff puff pass :sleeping:

That is hard to wrap your head around.

not how it works, the light that those stars emitted took millions of years to get here (because of the light years of distance), so you are looking at the light that took millions of years to travel to your eyes (or the telescope). and thus the image (light) that you are looking at, is old, very old.

its like if a threw a ball from Canada to USA and it took 2 days to get to you - when it gets to you, that ball was thrown 2 days before. sort of like that but with light.

Correct, think of it like thunder. The thunder you hear happened a few seconds or minutes before depending on where the lightning happened. So your hearing sound from the past. Light travels much much faster than sound but still isn’t instantaneous so it’s light from the past.

gravitational lensing is pretty neat to see

So… you’re saying Rand McNally’s attempt at making an Atlas of the Galaxies won’t work? It’s out of date before its even published! (by millions of years!) (not to mention, the chance of flying right into a supernova that wasn’t there a million years ago would be a bit nerve wracking)…

We’re still gonna need serious collision avoidance systems before things like Warp Drive and Hyper Drive are invented…
