Took a break between management jobs and joined all my brothers in the oilfield 1980-86.
Platform Habitat (Texaco) gas platform in the middle of the Santa Barbara channel, Drilled about 14 directional wells in the time I was there…Deepest was 21,400 feet took a year to drill and complete.
Worked derrick on that bitch and had several shifts pulling 5" drill pipe all 8 hrs! LOL, I was in my 30’s and great shape but would still come down to the floor literally shaking!!! LOL would probably kill me now if I just climbed the derrick!
No way could I do that kind of work now. I’m still in dam good shape for a guy 66 yrs old but, that work will kill a man. Never did offshore. Always onshore drilling. And when that quit being so hot, I went to Well Servicing. That is workhouse mofo, right there. Pulling sucker rods and/or Pipe out of an existing well is Filthy, Exhausting work. Sucks out loud, but it puts a bean on the table.
Exactly!!!
I guess one of the benefits working offshore is it never got above 75 degrees out there…pulling sucker rod and tubing on a hot day would be tough on the hands!!!
No I’ve been up. The all night work was few days ago. I’ve been up since 7 but I had to run around and grab some stuff for a job. Can’t do leaves with a foot of snow on top of them so I’m putting some insulation in a customer’s basement in an hour. Gotta keep that cash rolling in!
