Maybe don't mess with native americans

i was interested to read this story a few days ago. it’s about the navajo tribe objecting to folks putting human remains on the moon. it seems that it happened back in '97 or thereabouts and nasa said it would consult with the tribe before doing it again. well, it was scheduled to happen again, and guess what? did nasa (the us govt) live up to the promise made to a native american tribe? of course not! they said it was a purely commercial venture and they had no control over the payload. well, imagine my surprise when i read this story about the launch just now. things like this make you wonder if perhaps the power of prayer or whatever you want to call it doesn’t actually work. well, i don’t wonder any longer since i had my experience.

I saw that headline a few days but didn’t read into it. I would probably chalk the launch issues vs American Indian as superstition but to be fair I am ignorant about the powers working in our world and understanding them is far beyond my grasp. My objection to these business ventures is allowing anyone to start polluting moons, planets and stars with our earth created junk, biological or otherwise. It’s bad enough that earth’s orbit is full of defunct satellites and whatever else is just left out there by the arrogance of mankind.

I agree. I also hate the fact.our space exploration has been sold out to the highest bidder. Our taxpayer dollars did the research and now someone will…make a profit. If yu can afford to explore space you have too much money. It’s like the quest for humanoid robots that cost…millions and actual humans who want to work are starving all over the planet.
Oh well.

These projects are given to corporations because of freedom of information act. When the government does it you can request info. Private companies do not have to provide this info. This is the same reason for private companies in war, they don’t have to provide causality numbers like the government

These projects are given to corporations because of their increased risk tolerance, not freedom of information act. If NASA botched 3 consecutive launches like SpaceX, Congress would’ve pulled their funding.

you mean like they did when the challenger exploded? or after the next shuttle exploded?

Not only that, NASA failed to lower the cost of space flight, which was one of the goals of the space shuttle program. I don’t think the Native Americans had anything to do with it, if they could control that, we’ll then I’m sure their history would be very different. But that’s a whole different topic.

I like that Musk is involved. NASA isn’t going to get us to Mars. They could have had a successful colony there 20 years ago but they like playing with robots that don’t really tell us what we want to know.
