Thanks guys. I bet I forgot about adding calcium to my outside plants last week.
The good thing is that with those SIP buckets I can just shoot some calmag into the overflow. It’s down on water about half way so I can adjust the dose. Tomorrow when I water I’ll make sure to add some to the mix.

I really appreciated his music. Lots of memories go along with those tunes.

When my plants look funky I start with Gypsum, I use Diamond K. And Yucca. Mojave Gold.

Looks like a very nice gypsum!

Okay, That’s like a small field worth of gypsum. How much would a person use on say a 10 gal planter?

I dont know… lol… i havent gotten that organic yet … but id say about 10 percent of that for like 2 grows lol

You would want to use 1-2 tablespoons per gallon of soil mix. So if you were going to just add it on top I would use about a half a cup worth or so and water as usual.

Thanks @Oldjoints .
I’m not going to use it ATM. I’ll be adding some Calmag when I go out to feed. I thought it a good grow tip with the gypsum and wanted to expound on how to apply it on a single plant. You answered it perfectly.
Good grow knowledge to add to the thread. Bookmarked.

With tomatoes they recommend about a 1/4 cup gypsum per plant. (…that’s to prevent bloom rot…)
The old school mantra was ‘whatever works for tomatoes works for weed’… I’d go with that as I’ve always found that statement to be true (in my experience…)
The nice thing about gypsum is it doesn’t change pH (well, it does a little :pinching_hand:) so adding it as an amendment shouldn’t mess with that.

You know @Gpaw , I had heard that saying as well. But the best tomato grower I ever knew kept her secrets. Granny knew how to build up the soil and get the most out of her labor.
There was something she did that was different than what she told everyone. I believe that’s a fact. She just liked to astonish folks. lol

What’s your grow medium @MoBilly ? Wouldn’t change my approach. I run mine thru a flower sifter.
I mix 5 gallons at a time. 1/4 cup, 2 tbsp Yucca. Often just that. As they get close to finishing, molasses too. A smart guy I know here does that.

I started using those Sip buckets a little while back and just started out with what I knew worked. I’m using Happy Frog soil and a combination of nutrients (The Fox farm trio and Jacks).
I’ve got a good bit of compost/goat manure working ATM. If Mom doesn’t “need” it, I’ll be using a mix of my own come Spring.

I’m not sure how well molasses would go over in a Sip. I guess I could water it in from the top… I know they like the stuff.
