No ads? Thank you!

Wow, I was up taking my morning poop and I realized this website doesn’t have ads. None. I appreciate that. To make sure that it stays this way next week I will be donating. Thank you overgrow.

I’m all for no ads and keeping it low cost, user-supported, and not trying to monetize every little thing like some sites, since making it all about the money results in terrible moderation and illogical explanations for user bannings and topic removals (I’m looking at you, RIU!).

However, with that said, I don’t know how anyone browses the internet without uBlock Origin and Ghostery addons on computers/laptops, or AdAway on the phone. I also use NoScript to prevent annoying video plays, popups, etc.

I don’t think I’ve seen ads on any device in…15 years, maybe more? Not even in Hulu, Youtube, or anything else.

No ads? Are you blind?

I see ads all the time underneath the threads reply button, I’m looking at a BloomFarmsCBD ad right now.

If the ads are a necessity for site maintenance I can deal. It would be nice if we had a way of using a person’s contributions to OG as a way of throttling their exposure to ads. In other words, contribute more/better, less pop ups/ads. Doable solution? Or just surf using all the blockers?

This forum is a relief comparied to most! After the Mars Light fracas I stopped by AutoFlwr and was trolled by a Mars rep. Not two mins after I posted in the lighting forum, she’s trying to sell me a light.
If only she had read the post and saw I just bought one.

More importantly, to me anyways, most sites retain data and use trackers.
I could be wrong but I don’t think OG uses that many, that I know of anyways.

This was in the FAQ’s
“We do not sell, trade or transfer any of your information to third parties.”

I know the other site I mentioned, does its in their Terms or Privacy Poilcy.
It’s probably still that way but it’s been a while since I’ve read it though…

Many other sites implement such things! YouTube for example has their paid service that takes away ads and gives a bit extra.
Hulu has programs from 5.99-15.99 depending on what you want or need. The lowest payment uses ads. Not against ads, just happy to see this site trying to make a place for users and not for a cash crop. (Not implying the people who work on this don’t deserve to be paid.)
