Question about LED's, Garage Growing, Cold Temps.

In the past, using HPS lighting has taken care of temps in cold grow areas. With the change over to LEDS has anyone experienced a issue with keeping their tents the right temp during cold weather? I have run a few test while the temps are rather cool right now with three LED lights in a 5x5 space. The top of my tent with the AC off is about 87F. The outside temp is 63F. Should I expect that I will be able to retain a temp of 75F when the temp in the garage is 20-25f?I think my biggest issue is going to be keeping the Relative Humidity under 55%.

I’m a bit confused by your numbers but it sounds a bit cold and challenging.

I can tell you that the coldest I’ve ever done indoors was in an uninsulated basement that got as cold as 14C. I was running a 250 hps that was off at the nighttime.

Best of luck.

I had a hard time in my basement last year. I put Pink insulation board underneath, on top, and between the cement walls and tents. It helped stabilized temps but still dropped down to 65f at night. Humidity dropped to a tolerable range after insulating. Going to work on conditioning the basement air this year.

No possible way - with the LED lights on or off. With a 1000W HPS light on, I’m guessing you might be able to get temps into the upper 40’s to mid 50’s. My reference point is my own basement in the winter. I purposefully keep the temps in the basement low, down into the 50’s. With 2 1000W HPS lights running, my temps inside the grow room will hit around 72 to 77.

With the lights off (but a dehumidifier running), my temps will get down into the upper 50’s. Still, with temps that low during lights off, my garden is extremely productive - and colorful - during my winter grows.

My lights out temps get low in the winter as well, low 60s. But doesn’t seem to be a problem and helps with some nice colors depending on strains.

I bought a small patio heater for winter for each tent.

I deal with temps in the basement down to like 60F. Now, you’re talking below freezing- you’re going to want some good insulation and good control over your ventilation. I tried adding a space heater but I was exchanging air so fast it didn’t matter.

Are you able to build up some walls with insulation?

Attached garage? Any insulation? What dimensions?

I started in a detached growage, and i’m making improvements each year. More like a 10x20 shed with electric, but i’m gaining on it. I find i run with very low humidity in winter, i’ll need a humidifier this coming winter.

Give us some more details on your space, looks like ya have several who can help…

The space heater is different than the patio heaters. First they are built to with stand wet conditions and heating an open space. Mine worked so well in the 4’8"x 5’8"X 6’6" tent, I ran it on the lowest setting It only has a 4" inlet(plus lots of leaks), outlet. The 4.5 X 4.5 with 6" venting stayed warm enough at one setting up.

That corner is always so cold too.

Bringing the tent inside for the winter is probably your best bet. If you don’t have the space inside for a 5x5 try a 4x2 or a 3x3. A smaller tents probably gonna cost a lot less than heating a garage in the winter.
