I’m in the “exploring my options” phase of dipping my toes into concentrates. I know I want to make some fresh frozen bubble hash, so I’m likely going to pick up a bag set here soon, something like a work bag, 220, at least a 90 and a 40, and maybe one between the 90 and 220. I’d love to hear suggestions from those who’ve been there already. I assume there’s ways of estimating trichome head size, but it seems like 90 is a common size mentioned as the mature head size you want to capture, but I assume also that strain matters as well.
Anyways, the ultimate goal is to make solventless cartridges… so I found rositek/dabpress and they appear to be the same or sister companies. Is there any difference functionally between the two lines of presses they make? Has anyone used both? Am I overthinking it and both will work fine?
I have a nugsmasher, lifetime warranty and has been a trooper for years without issue. A good freind bought a rositek and it came broken in the box, they are worthless as far as customer support and they literally offered to sell him a replacement controller. Only a 1 year warranty as well. For the money its not worth it. Nugsmashers lifetime warranty is legit. As far as the bubble hash bags, I just bought the 5 bag set on the jungle website. I followed the directions and used a 55 gallon Rubbermaid garbage can and filled it with snow and water. Plenty of info on the internet but everyone does things differently, you’ll just have to try it out and see what you like. If you’re just pressing it then you can go with a bigger size. I love rosin from hash, its pretty great.
Just here to say I also have a nugsmasher (xp model) capable of smashing an oz at a time. I got it on a half off sale then put it on layaway and they locked in the sale price for me. The only catch 21 they had was if you didn’t pay off the unit in 6 months they didn’t refund you and you got a store credit. Never had any issues with my press and I love it! For pressing any kief or anything your gonna wash you will want a lower micron number for finer filtering. Wish I knew more but it’s something I’m just looking into past year and contemplating on getting into
I have the Rositek RMP-2 version 1. The newer version has some upgrades I would love to have on mine. If I were to do it over though, I would have saved the money for the RNP-4 or greater.
The RMP-2 is decent for 4gram presses. The manual lever is garbage without any leverage. That’s where the version two comes in. It has the brackets to bolt down to a table. I personally just lower the lever and use a crescent wrench to gently twist the tensioner nut tight. It ‘works’ and is better than a hair straightener, but that’s about it really. I’ve been able to collect multiple flower runs of 9gram jars but it take a LONG time.
I was in contact with the manufacturers of Rositek for a brief moment and they are indeed a sister company of Dabpress. The folks there said they intended Rositek to be their premier brand with better engineering and materials. I don’t, and have not owned dabpress but, based on the craftsmanship of the Rositek, I would definitely buy a Rositek upgrade if/when I could afford it. Looking at the pictures of the dabpress vs the rositek, I would agree that the materials are superior.
As much as I enjoy American made gear and that awesome lifetime warranty, you could buy three Rositek presses for the price of one of those name brand presses. Just sayin’.
Damn. Was really hoping to not see something like this lol. The price is so good but ain’t there always a catch for a good deal. I appreciate the honest feedback though - live rosin from hash looks amazing to me and I have had two dreams about either making or smelling some so I know I have to follow through at this point
I don’t plan on extracting from anything but hash so maybe the cheaper models are all I need. It does seem like for flower extraction you need more pressure? I’m still very green on the subject but damn the concentrates look so damn tasty
With flower you do want 6+ tons, in my experience. With hash you very very rarely need more than 4 tons. I used to have a 10 ton and it was way overkill. Nice press though. I like the wood on the dabpresses. Keeps the surrounding metal from getting hot during use.
I usually do press the last 30 seconds or so pretty much at max but hash for me is always flowing well with 2-3 tons. Just that last bit that I smash it.
