Secret santa USA 2022 - CLOSED

Is there at least a recommendation for rough value of the gift? Even if it’s a big range… I don’t want to look like the cheap ass

Do both in the same gift… Buy a lighter or a book of matches & then deliver that with a brand new nug masher lol  :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :joy:

I second this. On our family secret Santa, we always make a price cap maximum price limit.
That’s reasonable for purchased gifts. If it’s something you make yourself or that you already have on hand, then it’s okay to give whatever, but if you’re going to purchase a gift, then it will be helpful to know what is the upper allowable limit…like $50, $75, $100… Whatever eveyone is comfortable with its fine.

@nefrella can you make a poll for this?

@nefrella
I would like to weigh in about this if I might.
I don’t really think it’s about the monetary value of the item you choose to send to someone. I plan on buying a decent gift, using what I know I can afford. That’s it. It’s the giving that matters. If I’m worried about being screwed on the value difference between what I gave and what I got then I would place my personal limitations low. That way I know I am not coming out on the “loosing” end.
Don’t hear what I’m not saying though. I understand where you’re coming from. I’m having fun looking and anticipating someone smiling when they open my present. I don’t want to think about disappointing someone by not being able to spend enough, or be crafty enough… etc.
But, if someone that can afford to part with more cash to make someone’s Christmas just plain AWESOME. Then I say whoever receives said gift is a lucky person and I hope they enjoy the present they receive very much.
That may not sound fair, but it is in my mind that each individual should decide how much they can part with.
Suppose your limit range is too green for me. Do I drop out in disgrace? I wouldn’t want to do that to anyone. So then, you have to set it low… But what about shipping? Do I want to send some trinket and pay more than the gift would cost them to walk down the road and buy? I would say let a person’s honor and generosity be the guidelines.
That’s just me rambling though. lol
If that’s more than two cents worth. Sue me. lol

I don’t think it’s necessary. If you need to put a cap on your gift- you make the call.

Kind of negates the purpose. It’s the thought that counts - right?:christmas_tree::gift::santa:

100% agreed. Some of the BEST gifts I ever got were a net cost of very low dollars - sometimes zero dollar.

No - there’s no range for giving. Gove what you can, and hopefully the recipient will love it. Either way - giving is the thought that counts, even if it’s a pack of gum with a card.

I always assumed OG Secret Santa would be mostly limited to seeds, and not other trinkets and such. I mean, we all know what we’re here for right :joy:

I, for one, am not here for seeds. I truly have enough seeds to sprout one every day for, probably, the rest of my life (I’m old though lol).
I’m here because I have come to appreciate the community. Several have become good friends. Then there’s the aid available when problems arise with my grow.
I like to think that the seeds are a pleasant bonus for just taking part in the community. I like to think that most are here for this reason even though I know the free seeds draw a lot of folks here. I like to think that it’s the friendships and the mission of helping new growers get their grows to be successful that keep folks coming back to this forum.
I may be naive but I’ll stick with my idealistic dreams (where this site is concerned at least lol) I guess. For the most part they serve me well.

seeds are one of the few tangible items we can safely gift/ship while maintaining the spirit of what we are all here for. hard to quantify feelings of camaraderie. if its the thought that counts then gifting the potential that seeds represent, satisfies it more than a chesterfield, imo. (yea, i’m old too, lol)

Oh yeah, I agree with that. Seeds are a wonderful gift idea. That’s a very good point, and rest assured, whoever receives my present will have something to put in dirt from this old goat roper.
