Seed popping comments

Ok ok ok, but what about the Moon???

I hear we have to germ on a full moon so seeds are able to get more water and what not

(never did this but wonder if that does anything, certainly affects fishing with tide changes)

As far as I know, the moon still has the same mass and same pull on the earth whether it’s fully illuminated or not (it’s always half illuminated 24/7 unless there’s an eclipse) . So I don’t see the advantage of a full moon over any other time there is high tide.

Jeff Lowenfels just came out with his 4th book Teaming with Bacteria. When discussing his book on various podcasts, he mentions that the seed has beneficial bacteria in it that get released upon germination. He argues that you lose these beneficial bacteria when you germinate in a paper towel and would be better off direct sowing.

That’s interesting, I have to read his books soon. A quick Google found this interesting reference:

@ReikoX here’s a theory: what if the success of the worm castings method for old seed is that those genotype-specific bacteria emerge into a rich, mild environment where they can quickly and easily feed and reproduce to feed the sprout? Thus creating an even better environment for a weak old embryo than if we tried to make it sterile? I have also seen a lot of good recipes for germination tonics that include a small amount of sugar on the theory that the energy of the embryo is depleted as it ages, and I wonder if the free and chelated nutrients of a humic rich castings does something like that?

I definitely believe it’s the active biology in the EWC that makes it work so well. Not to mention the humates and calcium content as well.

You have not been a PITA bud. The problem with conversations which include name calling is they tend to turn off topic. Folks get defensive and things can spiral way off topic. This is why I try to stear such conversations back on topic as I am genuinely interested in this topic. I agree 100% that sowing directly into medium is the best way to avoid the possibility of damaging the roots. I know many do as I do and it works perfectly fine for us but that certainly doesn’t make it the best way, just the way we use. It’s a personal preference and folks tend to find what works for them and stick to it. I however am open minded and not only willing to try alternative methods but also willing to concede that my way isn’t necessarily the best way to do things.

Thank you! I learned some valuable new site functionality today! :v:

I guess I’m just a failure then.

I can’t figger it out. My plants tell me differently.
Maybe you should go have a look-see at my BigMike55 and MarsHydro Go Crazy thread and tell me what I’m doing wrong. I’ll be waiting.

Yep, it’s nature’s way. Thanks for sharing.

I have literally planted over 10,000 trees by hand since 2005, 65 trees around the house, put in a vineyard, turf…everything got a drench of mychorrizae fungi at the time of planting. I hit my faves with VAM the other day and will apply a product I got in the other day from A.M. Leonard (free shipping promo) - MicroApply Soluble Endo/Ecto. I got a flat rate shipping fee of $200 waived for 2 items that are very heavy - 50# of Osmocote and BM7, a fine soil less blend. This is not a cannabis vendor. It is a legitimate company. https://www.amleo.com/amleonard-digital-catalogs

Am thinking about starting my own thread so I don’t go off topic on threads like this. Kind of a Help Desk thread. What admin can I contact to make a special go to thread happen?

At the top of the feed. Add new topic.

Not seeing it but thanks. I need to visit with an admin as one of my requests before I move on is to get my original handle back stolen by our typical forum jerk.

Then say, @TeamOG :+1:

While I was offline LemonadeJoe moved all these posts to this new thread so really you could just use this one man. I can change the title for you if you wish?

I do the soak till sink, then towel till tail. Only with weed seeds though, but that’s because vegetable seeds don’t cost $10+ a piece lol.

Not sure I’m seeing any difference @DougDawson. Thanks, but it’s really not what I had in mind.

Honestly don’t know if this is worth my time, lots of noise and trolling. Seed offer still stands though. I can share theC99 backcross I did 20 years ago and some of the one I did in 2021. But, are you in Canada?

Grow hard,

The only difference is they created a topic for this and moved all the posts here. Yes I am up in Canada.

Your growing skills are excellent, good on ya!

“You are always welcome here. No apologies necessary. Everyone can say and do what they like in this room. No religion or politics, but everything else is fair game.”

So what is it? We can agree or not agree to express ourselves without considering the disagreement a personal attack?

Carry on @BigMike55.

@OldUncleBen I remember you! You’ve probably forgotten more about growing than I will ever learn, you just ain’t pc enough!

(I’m still trying to get used to how the forum here functions, I am on this damn phone and it’s frustrating.)

I am attempting a Lazarus grow with some of my old seeds, and I’m not having much luck. I can get some of them to crack open, and I can see green tissue inside- but they never develop past that.

I’m planning on getting Murashige-Skoog formula and see if that helps: https://phytotechlab.com/phytoready-murashige-and-skoog-germination-medium.html

I guess I am supposed to sterilize the seeds, then just drop them in the vials? :woman_shrugging:t2: What would you suggest?
