It’s easy soak seeds a week before full moon and the night of full moon the seeds soaked on full moon will not germ you will be lucky to get one seed to germ but soak seeds a week before and all seeds will germ and fast like, it’s observable
What’s TLDR? Lol , I guess I’m old lol
Too long didnt read
Of tangential note, a year or two back, my thermostat burnt out and my clone chamber got up to 124°F. I had clones (they looked awful from the heat) root in 3 days, and all the seeds I had planted had popped in that time frame as well. I know that there is a temperature range that has been determined to be the “best” range for popping seeds and making clones, but the best temperature range is not the only temperature range. Plants are life, and life is persistent. Tropical and equatorial heirlooms come from environments where they germinate, grow, and flower in 100+°F weather, and those heirlooms are considered by some to be superior to commercial strains.
Arguing over the opinions of how to best pop seeds is akin to arguing over how to best consume ones final product… to one person, it has to be joints, while to another it has to be bonged, while a third will only vape… All are valid opinions, which are absolutely correct for each individual. Yet each method is totally incorrect to the others
Some of ya’ll are over thinking this. Since it’s been a few pages I’ll reiterate - I successfully germinate and grow out seeds at the same beginning temperature, a room temperature of around 75F/23C… doesn’t matter where they’re indigenous to. Some examples I’ve grown in the past being sativas like The Flying Dutchman O. Haze, Dalat Vietnam that an old Army helicopter pilot gave a bunch of us, Zamal (from the french island of La Reunion off Madagascar, gifted to me by Gypsy), Peak 19 which had a strong indica influence and now pure indicas that I started last month - Sensi Hindu Kush, Cannacopia Lapiz Mtn. indica, Tom Hill’s (Freak) Deep chunk, and a real oldie from the Dam - 1990 Master Kush X Afghaan 90.
Again, I soak in bleach water for an hour, drain, fill the jigger back up with sanitized water, watch them sink and sow the next day in 20 oz Styro-cups, 1/2" deep. No heating pad, just the kitchen counter.
Change gears, I unpacked my new Viparspectra KS5000 yesterday, wow! What a solid, well engineered unit. Have painted the reflective walls with 3 coats of Behr’s Ultra Pure White, should have those faves out of the cold greenhouse and into their new home today. This lamp is the bomb, at least first impressions. VERY well built, light, driver is removable (and very heavy so that’s a plus). Light distribution to the perimeter is excellent - the diodes are concentrated around the perimeter where they should be. Notice too the gap in the middle. Can’t wait to fire this puppy up.
Latest Sammy diodes - 301H. Osram deep reds…
Kwik Seeds - great stock, fair prices, fast.
Wow those 2 on the bottom right look like tomatoes tomatoes are good:)
They are @drgreensleaves. Starting 2 pots of Juliet grape tomatoes too. It’s an outstanding BIG grape tomato with that big tomato flavor.
I’ve always planted into the soil, or recently coco, for the pop, and put the starter pots in the grow area. Only on the most recent batch have I soaked them first, give them a splash of peroxide, swirl them for a minute, then top with water to a half inch or so deep, let sit overnight. Then right to the soil. I figured that the light heating the soil surface during the day then it cooling off at night mimicked the sun heating the soil during the day and helped them “wake up”. I have dug them up and hand cracked them after a little while if they don’t pop, with varying success. Can’t prove that helps, cause I’ve never done a control batch of any kind. But yeah, I’ve always viewed seeds as the only part of the grow that nature has provided me with all the goodies for haha. It’s got shelter and food built in haha. Just gotta wake em up.
Germination is a hormonal response of breaking dormancy based mainly on water. Soil temps that are way out of the norm are not good.
Like I often do I immediately put my faves that just popped the top in direct sun for as long as the south exposure allows me to do so. Which leads me to… why is everything from LED light companies I read regarding seedling light exposure recommending backing off on the dimmer to say…25% at a height of say…12-16"?
Unlike many trees/plants (fruit, maples, oaks) cannabis is NOT an under story plant.
Is it that easy to burn cannabis seedlings under a lamp like the one I just bought?
Also, I fertilize from the get-go too, which goes against the “advise” of many forum paradigms (of course). I mixed some Osmocote in the top inch of soil before I drop a seed in a hole I make with a pencil. Have also fed them a mild Dyna-Gro Foliage Pro (9-3-6) in rainwater, twice, while watering my pineapples in their cup.
Thank you for posting this. I was scratching my head and trying to figure this out.
So, when the next time is to drop seeds?
Two days ago was best you could probably get away with popping some today but you would be pushing it , and next best day is January 9th and you will have about a 7-10 day window , like @RoryBorealis said "ride those gravity waves bro ! " Lol I like that it’s cool as shit
This the way…
What does a full moon have to do with the tides?
Creates king tides due to the stronger gravitational pull. Floods like crazy here on full moon high tides.
I plant anytime I want. I follow no schedule other than my own.
I don’t follow the moon either I just think it’s funny to see people justify it
It’s beyond easy.
Folks just fret and kill them.
Soak 18 to 24 hours
Maybe a bit longer
Use a magnifying glass and see when they Crack.
Have some good wet jiffy
Or seed starter
Poke a hole with a pencil
About your first knuckle deep
Place seed in bottom side down
BOTTOM SIDE DOWN
Put in humi dome or equivalent.
Wait
Leave them alone
In 2 days they be unfolding
In 4 nice happy seedlings.
Don’t keep under a strong light
Do keep in warm place so germ is quicker
That’s it.
I made my own so I don’t sweat the investment.
Sometimes I chunk a handful in dirt and just use what comes up.
Many ways
Patience and not loving them to death is the biggie
And don’t drown them
After they Crack
Have the medium nice and wet but not soaking wet.
Soon at they sprout
Plant them.
Well that’s my experience.
