I can’t run anything at the moment, but I’m happy to help out in other ways, perhaps in logistics. If people want crosses, I got no input other than go for it! I’m excited to see the good vibes that come out of community collab!
If people want to go the F2 route, sharing F2 of anything B produces is going to be popular, but I’d advise perhaps focusing on discontinued lines so we don’t cut into his business. We don’t want to take money out of his hands - he has a family to feed. That was torontoke’s original idea anyway when we discussed it oh so long ago, and I totally agree. Focus on stuff he’s not selling.
Narrowing down the list to things people actually want to grow is a good thing, too. No point in reviving an F2 of something people aren’t actually excited to grow. A lot of those old, rare packs are rare and discontinued for a reason. It’s hard to think of a guy like bodhi, with a library of hundreds of moms and dads, couldn’t get a cut back if he actually wanted to recreate a strain. Not saying it’s impossible, just that if he thought something was worth pursuing, he’d probably have made more of it. But maybe he couldn’t, but everyone wishes he did. Those are the F2 I’d personally love to see.
It’s important that whatever the community decides, the donated beans go to somebody deserving and trustworthy and stable. I think the donor should have final say about whether or not a chosen surrogate grower (breeder?) is the right one. I know I wouldn’t want to give my beans to just any old joe blow off the street.
They gotta be a good consistent grower who’s known by the community, a person with space and time and a solid breeding technique where they can isolate pollen. This isn’t a situation where a nube tries breeding for the first time, nor is it right for somebody to sit on the beans for months before popping them. That’s a trainwreck waiting to happen. Better to have someone who’s doing it legally in a rec state, where they’re not selling weed (or other drugs) so there’s no active LEO presence on their tail. You want the most reliable people available for this job, and they gotta be willing to ship beans to others, either in small quantities as individual shipments to recipients, or in a big bulk amount to someone else who will take over the individual shipments. No “the dog ate my homework” or other mickey mouse shit like that. The weakest link is where the chain breaks.
What do they get out of it? Lots of free beans, and maybe a chance to hunt through a pack they’ve always wanted and are excited about. I’d prefer somebody who grows organic to continue the same good vibes, since bodhi produces only organic beans, but I think that’s less important to some people.
And the packages gotta be tracked and all that so there’s no disputes about lost stuff or stuff never arriving. All of this shit gets crazy, as we’ve recently seen, when people see dollar signs.
That’s all I got for now. Sorry I’m so long-winded today. I blame the weed.
