I believe That’s when an air pocket forms inside the stem and prevents the water from traveling up past it. I think it’s more of a problem when your rooting buy just soaking the cuts in water. It can happen If you leave the cutting sitting around too long and the end dries before you stick it in water, so they recomend you make a fresh cut under water. But I’ve never had a problem when using a medium like peat or coco pellets and rock wool, which allows plenty of air through it when drained properly.
Thanks, comrade!
The nutrient deficiency has been successfully resolved. A good watering with water set to 5.5 ph and some magnesium added has brought the soil down to just under 7. A follow-up treatment will bring it down further to 6.5. The leaves have greened up again with just the outside edge permanently damaged. The next treatment will be a good dose of LITFA and I’ll see what happens…
All of the clones are still alive including the ones that showed nutrient def. I am now hardening them some by leaving the plastic baggies off for longer and longer periods of time. That also lets the soil breath a bit and start drying to more normal (lower) levels. Before they get covered again for the night, they each get a half teaspoon of distilled water with the usual few drops of hydrogen peroxide. There is no difference between any of the clones planted in the coco coir, peat base soil, or ‘hot’ soil. The four clones that did ‘limp’ down when initially uncovered for a while were spread equally amongst the medium types. They no longer ‘limp’ down now; I did trim a bit more leaf off a couple of them.
A couple of days ago I put four more cuttings into a brown glass pill bottle with distilled water. Added the tiniest pinch of 10-54-10 and a few drops of 3% peroxide. I’ll see what they do. More to follow!
Sorry if my posts are in weird places, I’m not finding the forum style very clear…
Al the clones are alive. They have been uncovered for two days now and I no longer mist the leaves. I am slowly letting the media dry a little bit at a time. I am giving them each a teaspoon of water with a couple of drops of peroxide once a day. The cuttings in the bottle of water look healthy but no sign of roots yet. MTF…
Well, this one is certainly off and running. The original leaves are the ones with the ends cut off. This is sixteen days after the operation…
Just pull out my 18 yrs.old aero cloner…probably rooted well over 2,000+ cuttings throughout the years…it was always working non stop for years & years…
Home made? How does it work?
It’s very simple & cheap…click on my profile and it should take you to the link or do a search for Cheapo Aero Cloner bromigo…
Brutally simple!!! I like it!
PhilCuisine…I believe I remember you from the original OG…
I use a gallon bag over the Dixie cup in the same manner…I set them on top of a florescent light …the ballast is warm and creates moisture in the bag from the wet soil…I just throw promix in the cup…water with URB…Two weeks they are off n running already in cups with roots hanging out the bottom.
I use peat pellets and rapid rooters too…it all gets the job done…On to the next one Ol’ Son.
Yes yes yes…that is it…I read that entire thread/ threads when I first joined OG back in the late 90s…awesome.
What is ‘URB’?
This is how I currently have things set up. I Took cutting last sat night. last night, 7 days later, I checked on them.
Cuttings are in the upside down gallon jugs, kept in the shade of the other plants
Hey @Seamonkey84, and you do seal, meaning you screw the plastic lid in. In other words, no air coming in, right? Thanks.
Correct, the lid is crewed on. at most, I just open it once a day for a min to wipe some of the moisture off the sides. No additional water or spraying the entire time.
