So, i have a 4x7 plat set on a 12 ton. pretty normal setup. i have had it for a while, but haven’t needed to use it…the weed is that good. i have a home made press for a single gram or so, not filter. it’s worked a bunch of times on my older grows and on purchased buds.
So for fun, i setup the press today to try on some of my recently cured buds.
the output was ok, but i can’ scrape up any of it. it’s just goo, really terpy goo. i can get a about a quarter dab together, then it just starts sticking to the parchment. red hot cookies is the strain.
i am hesitant to put it in the fridge due to condensation.
the humidity where the press is, is pretty high. is that the problem. maybe i can only press when it’s low humidity outside (where i can fit a 12 press frame).
so i left it in a dry place for a couple hours and then put it onto a metal plate i put in the freezer for an hour. it works almost too well. the rosin was flying all over the place.
got 17pct yield off a gram. i guess that is okish. i got high for a long time, but think a gram would have lasted longer and got me more high just smoking it. lungs feel pretty good though.
it’s cool, but ya pretty inefficient if you can’t waste.
though, you can still use the leftover pucks. i used to give them to a guy who missed shwag. he loved it, and it got him pretty high. edibles are also on the table.
When I stared making rosin in 2013-2014 everyone I knew was focused on shatter and live resin; to the point I could not find a grower that would choose to process their material into hash over BHO. I was not growing at the time and wanted to make hash. BHO was not an option and finding quality trim was difficult/impossible.
I was left with squishing premium dry flower and found myself comparing the returns I was getting to what BHO could bring back it never added up. The bud was valued more as flower (took 7-14 grams bud to produce 1 gram flower rosin).
When you start from hash you get better tasting product, better returns, more stable, and people want it.
•Squishing flower never produced a return that would deem it commercially viable.
•Alot of miles/abuse on press.
•unstable product
•inferior taste and high to hash rosin
•juice wasn’t worth the squeeze
Thank you @BagmanCrappy I recently got a press but haven’t used it yet. Still on the learning phase.
I have been interested in making hash, for storage purposes really but glad I ran across this.
ya, when squishing bud raw with no filter, i get 14 to 21pct return. the bud costs about a dollar a gram to grow. that is about 7 dollars a gram or less for rosin. the thing is, i would do about a gram or more a day sometimes of rosin. if people are around, that’s a lot of rosin. my 2 grams of flower a day habit with other people seems pretty cheap. I’ve been squishing for a long time on and off, but it only seems feasible if you just have lot of extra bud to waste…i do. not sure it would yield more if i added a step like sifting. i bubble bag my trim.
is there some other way to get to hash bho other than sifting?
Ice water sieving aka bubble hash has come a long long way.
Many advantages to processing whole plants to hash before squishin. You can wash large amounts of flower, and process into Rosin by yourself. Talking volume that would require hired trimmers.
This link below is build a soil and pedros grow room on YouTube giving hands on demo of modern hash making. These guys are on a level I aspire to be at. Don’t let their fancy setup discourage you, gotta start somewhere.
weird, that build a soil guy isn’t wearing eyeliner like usual.
so, i watched until i got to where they break up the freeze dried bubble hash. theirs is super powdery. so, my bubble hash flakes/pucks are mostly hard like a rock. i tried to press it in a hash press once. it easily broke the hash press. maybe a few of the pucks i have will break up to like kief if i rub them. is there something i am doing wrong? my bubble process is similar, but i do manual stirring and i usually wait a long time after harvest (maybe 2 harvest) to process my trim. never ran buds.
Never seen Jeremy with eye liner lol. Sure you aren’t thinking of someone else?
You could try microplaning your pucks with a cheese grater type thing before pressing but if you want truly different outcome change your inputs and process going forward.
no. a lot of the vids looked like he had makeup on. like people do before getting on tv. i had shown other people at the time and they agreed. his more recent stuff looks like no or less eyeyliner…like more of a grey than a black on some.
