TopShelfs trees (Part 2)

The Don, Mimico, Petticoat, the Rouge, Humber are all places I’ve frequented over the years. I have friends who are part of the local fishery monitoring etc. and certain tribs there have truly been lacking as well. The Atlantic salmon were once so plentiful it was nice to come out there and catch unique fish, especially the acrobatic Atlantics! Now they are rare, even in places they were abundant ten years back. And the crazy part is the pressure, those tribs are getting so packed with people it’s insane. Like shoulder to shoulder for kms never seen anything like it besides port hope. Idk but if we don’t figure stuff out these fish are gonna become more and more rare as time passes. I just pray I don’t live to see the day they become extinct in Ontario, would break my heart. Truly

Yeah. Forget about fishing even. My local ravine used to be a very pleasant place to go and now it’s like being on a crowded bus.

I love watching them make the journey. Where I learned to fish they were once so plentiful at the base of the damn you could walk across them, all you would see is silver and black backs and dorsals! Just insane, they are still there in abundance but nothing like they were even 10 years back. As I kid I would follow them from the mouth as far up as I could make it, we’d release stuck fish, reach in and feel them. Break open log jams etc. it was one of my first true loves! And probs why I became so obsessed with fishing. It’s just awesome to see how determined they are and how they will travel sometimes hundreds of km’s upstream to within a few feet of the exact spot they hatched…. It’s awesome and a testament to their strength and determination. I love salmon and trout and will do all I can to ensure at least the fish nearby and my local fisheries survive and thrive

I can only imagine! I had a few gems out there I loved going to, now you can’t even get close, just packed! Always blows my mind at Jays games seeing the amount of people at any given location on the way up. The beach is just insane now! Insane

Conservation in Mo has been so successful over the years. They brought back the wild turkey and have kept the hatcheries going. But now the fishing seems to be dropping off around here. The big cats aren’t showing up… I think the contaminate levels are higher than they let folks know.

I talked to the First Nations elders, they know how everything got killed off.

The conservation works, the people don’t want to hear it. My area put in an antler restriction about 10 years ago for white tail deer. Saw a difference in 3 years. Before that if a nub of a spike was showing it’d get shot. Same time everyone complaining about no big bucks :joy:

That is a fact. Conservation has taken great care of the deer population around here. When Wasting disease came around it was all hands on deck. The hunters did their thing and conservation is doing their thing.
I shot a sick doe late in the season. When I took the thing in to the department the agent gave me a handwritten note with his contact info on it and told me if I had to take one just after season to go ahead. And if anyone stopped me to show them the note.
I didn’t have to use it but the gesture was great.

Holy CRAP! What a beautiful plant! :muscle: And it’s part of your landscape, no less…

I’d be interested in learning how you achieved that. Did you start (and train) it indoors initially? How long has it been growing? Thanks for sharing.

(…Also not wanting to hijack TopShelf’s thread, but this thread grows like @Kushking902 's weed. I look away for a day or two, and there are a hundred new posts!)

I’ve been 88 miles out of port in a 19’ plate Aluminum skiff for Albacore. That had me a tad puckered.
