Good morning guys! Coffee, no joint YET, but it’s not far off , hope you are having an awesome weekend
@HighTilliDie you win absolutely nothing, but my respect
Dropping in to be a science nerd
Potassium, sodium, and calcium are the most “important” electrolytes. You get them from food and drink, and they need to be in balance with each other. They are the reactive molecules that help every cell in your body receive and act on nerve impulses, some to stimulate, some to relax. If too imbalanced, eventually even the cardiac muscle will either seize up due to not being able to release, or be completely released and not being able to contract, either of which lead to immediate death
As long as you have a balanced diet, and don’t work in extreme conditions, you don’t need to track much other than “don’t make any extreme/sudden diet changes”, as in, if you drink 10 cans of diet coke a day, don’t suddenly change to drinking 3 gallons of water instead. Don’t suddenly subsist on only cookies or candy for days/weeks at a time, etc. If you do work in extreme conditions (heat, extreme exertion) you should be drinking something with electrolytes added (and ideally no sugar, it dehydrates you).
(Disclaimer - I learned this all years ago and it may not be 100% accurate, but I can bet at least 95%. I’m not a doctor and if you have any chronic physical conditions or medications you take, that can complicate the picture)
(Out of likes) this totally makes sense. I’m seeing more and more as I age the importance of good eating, drinking etc. I was not very good at it my whole life before now but I’m trying to under stand all of this better. And get back in shape, I also believe it’s detrimental to my vicious anxiety. Those drastic changes can be vicious to our body, I still remember juicing and my body reacting, at first it was great but really started to change the way I felt and even the way I acted.
Hypoglycemia/hyperglycemia and blood sugar
Blood sugar is very, very important. Unfortunately, people have been inundated with myths since age 1. High blood sugar does not make you hyper, it dehydrates you, and ruins your insulin response. You can’t feel high blood sugar, other than maybe vague fatigue and thirst. Being in this condition for years will eventually lead to type 2 diabetes. Sugar is a harsh substance, somewhat like salt: it causes a osmotic gradient (pulls water to it) in the body.
Chronic hyperglycemia will corrode and collapse veins. It steals water from the organs, putting undue stress on them. It kills circulation, often leading to loss of extremities or eyes, organ damage. It’s very serious
Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar you absolutely can feel. It feels like death. Sweating, shaking, weak, anxiety. This can ironically be caused by intaking too much sugar/too many calories. The body cranks out insulin as hard as possible (insulin takes sugar from blood and stores it in the cells as fat or glycogen). Thus, your body is constantly ready for a sugar assault, so it over reacts to sugar, making you feel like you’re starving even if you’ve recently eaten. Years of this and the pancreas gets tired of cranking the insulin, and the cells get tried of “listening” to insulin, so the whole system more or less collapses (diabetes type 2) You can literally starve to death with a belly full of sugar/food with too much insulin in the system. It has unfortunately happened to bodybuilders who abuse and inject it for its effect of taking calories into the cells more quickly
Fruit is said to be “healthy” because of its high content of fiber and micronutrients (vitamins+minerals). Problem is, they come eith extremely high sugar content. It’s fructose, a type of sugar that is particularly shitty for the liver and pancreas. And its a lot of it. It’s like vitamin candy. I won’t say fruit is unhealthy, but it should probably only be a rare treat, and not a signicant part of anyone’s caloric intake. Veggies are great.
Wow, you just explained so much bro! Sooo much and literally just made it all click, no joke! Thank you
I have blood sugar issues - hypoglycemia. Runs in the family. I have to eat high protein high fat, medium-low carbs and almost no sugar, otherwise I get fucky blood sugar, which will seriously enhance my already existing anxiety issues
Silver lining is that if you know what you’re doing, it can be used to great athletic advantage
That’s exactly what I had, not even sure how I fixed it, I suppose by transitioning back to normal, I found juicing a lot of veggies gross so I kept adding fruit, that’s where I went wrong. And come to think of it around the time that happened and I was laid up for a while the anxiety truly started, then a year or so later it came 10 fold, been that way since. Anxiety has been kicking my ass bro, I’m sorry to hear you deal with it too, it’s horrible.
Really eh? Does make total sense by messing with the numbers you can alter things….
Insulin sensitivity! It’s a wicked complicated subject I don’t totally get, because it indirectly or directly involves like half of the systems in the body
Basically, if you have naturally high insulin sensitivity, you have a slight advantage for muscle growth, if you have the appropriate diet and lifestyle/exercise
It’s actually pretty crazy. Ya no way I can understand it, kind of cool though
A win is a win brother! I’ll take my spot in the front row now! Lmao
My mom almost got killed because the doctors were overdosing her on insulin. She lost 50 lbs in 2 weeks unwillingly
I bring electrolyte supplements everywhere I travel and use them to replenish lost sweat. Game changer.
Haha Yezzir it is! Was just playin, you are TST thread mayor for the day
That’s insane, wow! I’ve actually heard a similar story from a friend. Not the drastic weight but they almost killed his wife by pumping her full of insulin. Crazy
Teach me sensei….
@JustANobody did you print that deal also? Mason jar bong is friggin great!! Also good morning everybody!
Indeed I did!
That’s million dollar idea sir, if I saw that on Amazon I would buy one!
