I honestly think it’s the air gap. I could be wrong, but I think that’s what helps.
That and layers of air /insulation. Even in the crazy cold I’ve seen some make it, the more I send/recieve the more I realize what works and doesn’t. My methods are constantly evolving.

The 2 cubic foot bags are $23.99 in Charlottesville which is the closest decent sized town near me. They were $19.99 last summer if I remember correctly.
