What are the pros and cons in the veg light cycle?

so your answer to my initial question is yes there are draw backs?

if i may ask what are the draw backs? @sfzombie13

the plants need rest and will do better with it. maybe less yield? not sure if it will be significant, but i’d just get another timer and have more bud.

that is anecdotal as hell and like i said, may be insignificant, but for under $10 it’s worth it in my opinion. more than that and i’d need to see some stats or something.

oh, and you’re welcome.

I buy the Noma digital ones and I think they are $30 and never a single problem.

Interesting. I didn’t realize so many people ran 18/6. I’ve always ran 24/0 and never had an issue that I’m aware of. My understanding is that cannabis is a C3 plant and does not need a dark cycle to process carbon dioxide. I have never grown 18/6, so I don’t have any side by side comparisons.

maybe for ppl with well controlled environments is easier to keep them happy… myself (without great control) i always notice they stress a bit, cant take the 24h without wilting stiff or showing some other stress signs after 20+ of light. and they recover after a darkness period, even if its short.

but again, it wouldnt surprise me if 24h is perfectly fine for some folks. specially those with a good hold on environment.

What I’ve heard is that even under 24/7 plants take a 4 hours nap zz|nullxnull, so forcing them more than 20/4 is just wasting electricity and money… beer3|nullxnull

I tried to find the actual study, but this article basically summed it up. Cannabis not only doesn’t need a rest period, but actually grows faster and larger without one. However, the electricity used for either is the same when totaled. This infers faster growing plants, same amount of electricity, more grow cycles annually.

As always, do what works for you.

In internet you will find opinions of all kinds , I have found interesting facts in this one… ejem|nullxnull

Photosynthesis lets plants absorb light and convert it into an energy source. At night, when everything goes dark, respiration turns that energy into carbohydrates for later use.

This means that exposing your plants to light 24 hours a day will prevent respiration from occurring. No respiration can impact the health of plants.

That’s why I try to find articles that cite references. There is so much misinformation out there.

I recently stumbled on the 12/1 light schedule also called gas lighting for veg… I’m going to give it a try in the near future…

18/6 over here for veg…….my personal reasoning is the plant needs some dark to do it’s thing like it would naturally…

I just switched from 12 hours a day to 15 hours a day light cycle during flower and no adverse effects. They seemed to still develop even :+1:
