Power outage caused me to give 12 hour night period in veg

Hey guys,

Power flickered last night during the night period and it caused my veg plant to have about 11 hours of darkness because I didn’t check her until morning and the power strip that the light was on didn’t come back on.

She is 25 days old approximately.
I wasn’t going to flip her for another week…

If I try to keep her in veg will she get real upset? Herm out etc?

Or should I just take this as a sign from the universe and flip her now to keep her in good health?

It’s fine. Flip when you’re ready

I wouldn’t worry about it one bit.

Thanks guys… I’ve had this happen in flower before but never in veg… Wasn’t sure what would happen… Hopefully she just enjoyed the extra rest.

She was all perked up when I turned the light on. Like she’d been waiting for dawn…

One full night of darkness during veg won’t do any harm, generally speaking.

At twenty five days old, she’s not mature enough to have a hair trigger anyways.

It’s all good

Sweet as a nut. No stress. I’ve had 36 hours of light in late bloom due to me occasionally being an ejit plants were grand :sunglasses:

A cannabis plants veg cycle normally lasts anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks, but can veg for much longer periods too.
Your plant, at 25 days, has just reached enough maturity to start a flowering cycle, however, it still takes at least 10 - 14 days of 12/12 for it to actively start it’s flowering cycle.

There is absolutely nothing to worry about… this didn’t even phase your plant. It’ll be ready to start it’s flowering cycle when you are.

May I ask what type of lighting schedule you are using on your veg plants?

18/6 right now. I started 24 hours solid but she didn’t seem to like it.

I do 18/6 regularly, and actually prefer it. Even in veg, the plants benefit from a break.

Plus, I veg with LED lights that don’t have a dimmer, and the plants really don’t like weeks straight of being under very bright lights

I run a 24/0 schedule during veg under T5HO. Cannabis does not require a dark period to photosynthesize.

Some plants are more light sensitive than others and when I run across this in a plant, it gets the 18/6 schedule.

Interesting… seems like it depends on veg light some.

I’ve been using COBs for last 3 grows and they are pretty intense. I dim them down and give longer night periods than I used to for sure. Under blurples and cfls I was able to run them longer and closer without issue. Using COBS I’ve moderately light burnt most plants, even being a little careful. The longer night period seems to make it easier not to burn them or stress them with the COBs.

One time just ignore it n move forward. If it happens a couple times close together then worry. But it takes more than 1 dark period to complete the transition to flowering . Its the repeat of shorter days. Without the repeat when the next day is 24 hrs light. That night never happened.

If your plants are experiencing light burn, then your lights are too close to the canopy and should be raised accordingly.

I have 12 plants (2 mothers and 10 clones) under a T5HO that is approximately 12"/13" above the canopy on a 24/0 sched and have never had a problem doing so.

Once flipped to 12/12, they flower readily. Anything under 14 hours of light will trigger most cannabis plants to start flowering. By the time my plants enter their late flowering phase, they will be on a 10/14 schedule for finishing.

My space is limited so I dim them down instead of raising up. More vertical space would nice…

I have a dimmable 600W HPS that I use for flowering… but rarely use the option of dimming the light unless it is warranted while using a particular strain.

A good, but often overlooked, option for a less bright veg light is by using a T8 instead of a T5, LED or MH. CFL’s are another good option for veg/flower.
T8 tubes come in all the same light specs as T5’s do and full spectrum T8’s offer more blue light than red… perfect for vegging plants… even for long periods of time.
