Yeah roots have terpines bugs respond to. Even causing hatching larvae in some roots responses, but very little research has been done on this. Roots can get too wet and plants send out signals that there’s some plant material needing consumed and here come the bugs.
The only thing I’ve found that has been domumented as a tool to mute these signals is yucca added into the soil. Plant signal pathways are really interesting.
