1996 seeds - Got 2 to germinate

I had a feeling these oldies would be sensitive and need worked out , and that’s true - she’s throwing bananas week 5 flower - I plucked some and gonna leave some , but that’s why testing is important - so I will be hunting thru the f2’s looking for stable phenos & going to make f3’s and see if any stability shows, I’ll also be taking the 1996 x OG and hunting it & back crossing it to the keeper female of the f3 selection - I’ll be trying to stabilize these as regs , and once I get to f4 ish I want to try and stabilize them as fems as well, but before I get to the f4 variations I will be adding the f2 keeper to a feminized project before just for more testing - but the way these smell it’s more then worth the time to try and attempt to work out and stabilize -

Was hoping it would be sooner then later - but we are at the beginning of this journey & I will take all the time and do what I can go get to a point of satisfactory with these -

But for the meantime we can enjoy the unstable pheno from the original seed stock - and these f2’s are going to be where the work happens :trophy:

I am sure there will be some solid phenos in the f2s. Lots of work to do. I wonder how stabile the crosses are, work to be done with those also

Definitely some work to be done, I’ll be hunting thru the crosses to find a solid one to use as Backcrossing something inline , I pushed the big clone to its limit , as it shows & it wasn’t to happy, I’m assuming old genetics might have been bred outdoors or with Older style lights ? So I’m assuming pushing this one clone to its limits was overwhelming for her , I did go ahead and chop all the lower branches and left the main cola, if there’s any seeds that’s fine , but didn’t want the lowers going any crazier then they where with the bananas , but definitely going to work out and hunt the f2’s & then further it after - but will take some time but nobody wants to see this below

I would bet that this plant was run outdoors, you probably are the first to run it indoors, just have to find a solid pheno and work from there.

I was thinking the same, maybe it could acclimate to indoors after a few cycles of running the original clone if you think it’s worth keeping, or just say fuck it and move onto the f2s

I’m really excited to see where this project goes. Figures crossed that the sour mothball scent holds up to cure and is passed to progeny! I’m pulling up a chair for this one.

The instability on the 1996 original mom from the 2 seeds , is definitely unstable - but I’ll will make my attempt to start stabilizing these next round - I’ll pop a bunch and hunt them as normal & look for more stable phenos , I’ll also take the Og x 96 and look for a stable pheno to - to maybe back cross - will try a few different things - but I will make an honest attempt :crossed_fingers:t2:

damn she just wants to throw nanners. Still got faith that a more stable pheno will be found.

Awesome project man. And naw I dont think anyone would get tired of these updates lol. Its so fun to see people work lines. Especially stuff from 30 years ago. Absolutely my favorite types of threads.

I see you added sulfur for terps and Ive heard this before.

I have a bag I used for PM. Does this stuff really help with those terps?

I think it depends on the sulfur , I’m not sure you can mix those / but I use Photosynthesis plus & TPS signal which has some sulfur in both- but I’ve ran these with and without on some moms I’ve had for 4 years or so , and it definitely made them way more oily and brought out extra notes in the nose , but definitely increased terps , could be anywhere from .5 -2% just depending on genetics I’m assume , some get crazier and some just gain some extra notes that was subtle or non existent prior , but I’ve definitely seen improvements with using it / and I’ve also heard sulfur was in like most if not all products in the early years , and they have since toned down sulfur emissions tremendously , but I honestly thing TPS signal is a really good product & is sold as a terpene booster

Threw the original mom outside to flower of the 96 - and she’s throwing some color on all the tops

Hopefully she just hermed inside because she wasn’t happy there and will thrive in the sunlight!
That’s some pretty interesting purpling

Not really to upset about the instability indoors, i definitely expected to have to work these out, but I just flipped 20 f2 into flower to test while I have 5 weeks left in the main room, will see the terps these next 5 weeks and see what we got - also pushing the 20 high par , just to see if that’s effecting them, and when I do the main run I’ll keep the par under 900

Any updates?

I’m curious as well. It’s been a minutes since the last update

Unstable , every female f2 hermed , I won’t be focusing on this project as much , & will take a look back at it later perhaps , but very unstable and I don’t have the means to do a big hunt and then scrap 99% of the plants from intersex issues

Its gonna take alot of time getting getting this line stable… question is is it worth it…

What are the effects of this particular flower for you.

The original female smelled amazing, I’m thinking of taking the new f2 male I had selected & hit something stable and see where that leads , might do that soon , but hunting the f2 seeds are quite tedious so far … but the new male smells extremely well

It has this super gassy sour smell on the stem rub that overtake the mother room

Popped 3 seeds , 1 died , 1 female , 1 male , before I flowered the female , I made the f2 seeds , because I couldn’t get these again if I wanted too , so when I made the seeds I planted them and along side I ran 2 clones of the original mother , & both had hermed around week 5-6 , so I chopped them down, due to 48 other plants in the room - so haven’t had the chance to get anything smokable yet , but it’s only the beginning of this , if the new male shows out , I’ll be happy to continue hunting more f2 females , and do the tedious work to find one that doesn’t germ under high EC in the medium & higher par , I do believe I hermed the 2 clones by excessive par, but the f2 seeds hermed under around 600 par & within the first few weeks - so only time will tell
