ADHD, Cannabis, Life

One thing that’s sort of nice about ADHD meds is that they work pretty much instantly. The day you take them this person will probably know if the meds are good for them or not.

I will say it was cathartic to get a diagnoses before I even was medicated. Having some explanation for why I would let myself and others down constantly helped me immensely. I agree with foriegner that taking meds is for sure a choice they need to make on thier own, but just starting the process and getting a diagnosis can really help.

I got diagnosed aged 55 and have been using cannabis since age 14.

Where I live (Australia) many psychiatrists will not prescribe stimulants if you use cannabis. Mine even insisted on a urine drug test, so I had to give up cannabis to get medication. Tried stims for a year or so but have now switched back to cannabis as the stims didn’t really work (apart from the first few days). It’s pretty frustrating as I really think they might work well in combination with cannabis.

I find that the older sativa strains work better for me. When I first had ritalin it reminded me so much of some of the clearer sativa effects I had as a youth but that is getting harder to find. Indica’s tend to muddy my mind.

Interesting, I have only used cannabis regularly while taking a stimulant med. Its also the other way around even though sativas gives me a jump start. I find indicas balance and focus me comfortably. I find sativas to racy. My combined type is fairly severe. I have met people and I go fuck I thought I had bad symptoms. Definitely multiple levels when it comes to how someone manages without meds.

I needs to be the right sativa. As you point out, some of them are too paranoid or racy, but others can be smooth, stimulating, and focussed. My ADHD is inattentive which no doubt plays a factor in me preferring sativa’s.
It probably isn’t fair of me to label all indica’s as muddy either. Some are fine but I think they’ve been wrecked a bit by breeding towards power rather than effect.

To be fair to my psychiatrist, many ADHD experts are against cannabis, and cannabis and stimulants both elevate the heart which may not be ideal if you are in bad shape.

Its important to have balance all areas. I missed that key factor until I took meds for a long period of time.

It’s not the end of the world. I’m not complaining. I just find it odd. I make a point of being noticed closing the doors.

Something else she does that may or
May not be ADHD related is save toilet paper rolls which she stacks on the bathroom counter. I couldn’t figure out where these were coming from and it turns out she wants to recycle them but keeps forgetting so we end up with 8 paper rolls beside the sink.

 I won’t finish a roll completely. So I end up with 7-8 almost finished rolls sitting next to a brand new roll.

Totally normal. And i’m not only saying that because i just saved a cardboard tube from a roll of toilet paper this morning :eyes:

Well, maybe i am. But- it wasn’t from a Regular roll, it was from the very last of the big, honking, truckstop sized rolls i got hooked on during the pandemic :mask:

So its like a souvenir. Plus its wicked tough cardboard, you could use it to display like… a bowling ball or whatever :man_shrugging:
Im keeping it

:joy::joy: good to know the struggle is real.

The cardboard tube collection was the damndest thing I couldn’t figure it out.

We end up with other weird collections too but that’s the weirdest one.

But she’s still the best, just a weirdo. I imagine I have a foible or two. At least one anyway :joy::joy::joy:

Yeah I monitor my resting heart rate and when I smoke now. At least here and there. TBH cannabis bumps me about as much as Vyvnase… but I have a normal resting heart rate of between 65 to 70 usually. I seem to be at 70-80 now depending on the day and maaybe 85-95 if i have smoke in the last 15min

Yeah certain sativas work for me as well for… they clear my mind in a way if can have the willpower to just have a small dose. Maha Kala Mindblower Haze, Original Delicatessen Lily have been the best as far of stuff from seed for me… but there is a Red Congo cut floating around Canada that I really really want to get my hands on. Fluffy Redhaired and smells of spicy melons. Just really medicating effects for me in terms of my ADHD if I can manage to not overindulge.

Not exactly the same but is anyone elses partner constantly finding things in weird places? I put things down without thinking all the time once I get distracted by something. She found my bit set I was looking for the other day in with the wine glasses. I think I was grabbing a drink and had it my hand and just put it on the nearest open horizontal space at the time which happened to be wine glass cupboard…

Yes this. There is no such thing as open horizontal space in my house. What little there is only exists because of my protection.

Incidentally they thought I had ADHD as a child too but it turns out they were wrong.

I forget if you have cats :cat2:
We used to and toilet paper rolls were cheap and easy chasers

I have a dog but he is also a destroyer of toilet paper rolls.

He prefers the ones that are slightly thicker than normal.

I think it’s nice to think of it a super power. Sometimes. When it works. And for me too.

Mrs Foreigner is a force to be reckoned with part of that is a kind of mild hyper stimulation. But it makes her powerful. Then it goes too far and she can’t keep up with herself. I have said “make a list, cut everything by 20%, be ruthless, you’re trying to do too much.”

Lol, I want to engage with this thread, but I need to find a time to hyper focus through a hundred posts. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I’ll be back when I have capacity.

I was diagnosed with ADHD over 10 years ago and I have to say that cannabis should be the official sponsor of ADHD. It’s the most effective medicine to date that help you with all aspects of ADHD. Focusing, anxiety, take a step back in social settings, keep stress at bay, insomnia, etc… Best thing is that cannabis have a minimal effect on the dopamine pathway which is fantastic, because this is the most sensitive pathway in the ADHD brain. Leaving this pathway alone is one of the best methods of being happy and finding contempt as an ADHD adult.

I find the positive aspects you mention to be true in my observations.
