Yeah, that really does sound cool. Kinda like getting involved, without the super long walk.
Love camping. Walk into the woods with a back pack on, hike for a few hours, find somewhere beautiful that speaks to you. Build an a frame from some branches and trees. Cut pine bows so it’s 16 inch thick when you lay on it put an emergency blanket on the roof of a frame to reflect heat back down on you and enjoy the paradise of winter camping.
Ever since I completed my winter wilderness survival training I’ve always loved winter camping with minimal gear. Allows you to go further and experience more.
When I was younger my buddies and I did some tent camping it was great but as you get older sleeping on the cold ass ground was not for me anymore…We bought the pop-up so we can go to different places and enjoy the outdoors still. I’m pushing 60yrs. old and tent camping is not for my us anymore. This is how we do our camping nowadays…we’ve taken our pop-up to several different states but this year we’re gonna stay in Illinois and hit the state parks throughout Illinois.
Middlefork Forest Preserve a hidden gem in Illinois
Valdosta, Geogia
My own private hunting place for ducks & geese. This is when the pop-up comes in handy.
Every year couple times a year, sometimes on the islands sometimes at the campground, always in tents. Lol
I was just giving you a load of smack talk man. Like I’d said, me and the ground really don’t get along well anymore. I sure used to feel that way, but a camper is looking better and better.
All this camping talk makes me need to be out there! My wife and I are backpackers. We tend to climb 10 or more miles into the mountains with all our gear, and just spend a week with no one else but nature. Nature is our reset from this crazy technology filled world. And they’re putting cellular towers throughout the national parks.
We did move to 20 acres last summer and have spent many night camping out back. Its so nice to have a creek and some ponds to enjoy wildlife. Caught a bobcat on a trail cam in December. I need to find that photo. Right now it’s too cold to enjoy myself outside camping.IMG_20210216_181137|666x500
Although my friend did attempt a local record last night for camping outside with no bag or tent. It was -3 with -23° F wind-chill. Not for me.
Here he is!
We just went for a walk around the land and actually saw more cat tracks. And we followed them across the pond. It was probably dumb, but lots of fun. And it’s been less than 20 degrees for over a week.
No big deal bromigo, I’m still trying to figure out how the hell am I pushing 60yrs. old, it just crept up on me…we really love our pop-up camper and this year we’re gonna be going throughout Illinois. The coldest we’ve gone camping was 20 degrees and snowing…I’ll tell you what though, it was 76 degrees in the pop-up and that heated mattress sure did make it much more comfortable.
Nice @PhilCuisine
Nice. where’d you do the winter survival training? (I’ve been to quite a few surv schools myself, but never a winter one)
It was actually part of my training in college when I took a 2 year program for adventure recreation and park operation, Ontario
My wife has hinted more than once how it would be nice to have one. I always point out we would have to take 2 trucks. One to pull the boat!
This is basically a fold up tent on wheels with heat, stove, fridge, running water & bathroom…it takes me 30-40 mins. to fully setup by myself…my girlfriend and I and 2 pit bulls are the only ones that use it even though it can sleep 8 people…
We sold our condo in Florida 10 years ago and decided to just use our pop-up when we go to Florida for the winter. We’ve been camping all over southern states during winter time instead of being stuck in 1 place when we had our condo.
Our favorite place in Florida is Panama City Beach…We go to an RV Resort setup and stay there for 1 month. When we want to go to the beach all we do is just walk across the street and we’re at the Emerald Coast in the Gulf of Mexico. We also enjoy going out to the fine restaurants & bars. It beats being in Illinois during the winter time that’s for damn sure.
Thats awesome! I did around 1100 miles of the pacific crest trail and have aspirations to do the whole trail, as well as the Appalachian Trail and CDT someday hopefully!
I love camping, hiking, being out in nature is one of my favorite things.
Glad to see all the pics, Im sitting here eager for spring as we get more snow atm haha
I love that setup my friend. Nice. All in one
If you get around Clark county hit me up. There are a couple pretty nice campgrounds here. Lincoln Trail State Park is a really nice park. Quite and beautiful. The other has a big lake and it is the mostly younger crowd with speed boats going daylight to dark. It’s fun but I enjoy peace when I’m camping. We are about the same age. We’ll burn one and sit around a fire and talk growing
