Avocados grown on illegal orchards

Hope someone else saw this story: MSN

MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -Mexican avocados grown on illegal orchards should not be exported to the United States, the largest importer of the popular staple used in guacamole, the U.S. ambassador to Mexico said Monday.

In a visit to Michoacan, Mexico’s main avocado-producing state, U.S. Ambassador Ken Salazar said there should be consequences if avocados were determined to be grown on illegal orchards.

Seems we have a US Ambassador who is telling the cartels in Michoacan that they can’t sell the avocados they stole. WTF? Is someone kidding here? The Ambassador wants this made 'Illegal".

With politicians like this no wonder why my favorite foliage has disappeared.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

The crops are grown illegally, and sold by cartels who will in turn take the money they make with that to fund there other illegal activities

Well you have two options in this matter.

  1. Buy an avocado tree and grow your own. Will take many years before it gets to the point that it will produce fruit.
  2. Just deal with it and learn to do without. The avocados the cartels are growing you have no idea what they are giving to those avocado plants.

We got bigger worries than avocado

My thinking kind of took another track. Why is an Ambassador focused on avocados? Is messing with the Cartel really going to help anything? Yeah, it IS big money but worth dying for? Remember, this is Mexico.

It is a YUGE business. Go in any grocery store.

You misunderstand. They don’t grow them, the farmers do. They take them when on the trucks then sell them. What farmer is going to argue with a gun in their face?
