No, it’s reflective insulation, like silver bubble wrap. It keeps the water cool, and prevents the light from causing algae. You can paint them or used black buckets, I had leftover from a house project.
ah gotcha was just curious cause my house is cold during the winter and by extension so was the tent but I didnt think the under bucket heaters id use for brewing would work for my pots(because I have a drainage tray at the bottom) thought maybe you had the secret =P
I use 5gal fabric pots and organic potting mix( no time release fert) with 20% perlite and water or fertigate no more than every other day, often two to three days between in cooler months. I use Dyna Gro because its easy to mix, self buffering, cheap and very good. These are 30 days from seed soak.
I like the bluemat system because it is set and forget. I have really neglected these plants. I put water in the five gallon bucket the drip tape is gravity feed. I top dressed with some root organics bloom but should have done that a few more times oh well.
Id say it really varies from person to person. I tried dwc and for me it was an absolute nightmare with keeping ph in line. I’m sure that has a lot to do with your nutrients and additives but for me wow it was a royal PITA and I was very much involved in the grow more so than now with my coco coir. Worst part for me was the water changes and keeping res temps low enough to prevent slime buildup
Well, it depends, in my flower tent I have a 50l reservoir and 4 50l tubs with one net pot per tub, I just use the Lucas formula with maxibloom and it’s only a single charge per flower cycle. I check ph weekly, sometimes more, but because I have it set up for the reservoir top up via a float valve, I find the ph fluctuates very little. Lots of water volume is a good buffer.
It’s probably the least amount of needed input for any system I’ve had so far.
I got annoyed with using bottles nutes so i just do organic potting soil with regular top dressing and water with rain water only… this is just for pheno hunting really though. I’m not concerned with yield. If I were to want to yield higher I’d probably run nutes during flower with lots of added aeration.
