I don’t mind DET trading back and collecting more picks but it seems like they somewhat bungled their 2 1st round picks, Dan Campbell has them drafting like it’s the 80’s or something. Why would they draft Gibbs at RB when they have Swift and signed Montgomery in the offseason unless they know they are trading Swift today or tomorrow for a draft pick? And then drafting an inside LB who would likely have still been on the board for your early 2nd round pick.
Anyway, if I was a Lions have I would be slightly underwhelmed but those players should still be positive contributors for your team, plus three 2nd round picks can really help build depth with some solid starters, you guys will probably pick DB’s and defensive line, maybe offensive line or TE thrown in there. Porter Jr. and Branch are probably both at play for their first 2nd round pick.
They were a little weird, but I love the Jack Campbell pick. That whole thing about “positional value” and “you shouldn’t draft an off-ball LB early” or whatever is, I think, kind of stupid. If you think he’s good (and I think he’s gonna be) and you think he’s a “second contract” type of dude and he can be a starter for ten years, fucking draft him. Who cares where you draft him? Same goes for a center or a guard or whoever. That whole,”He’s got great traits! But we don’t know if he’s actually good! But you should draft him anyway!” shit is so stupid to me. Seems like a thing created by the Mock Draft Industry haha.
Gibbs… Yeah, I dunno haha. I read that this draft class wasn’t really filled with a shitload of great players and Gibbs is good. I’m a Gators fan and watch a ton of SEC football in general; he’s good. If you look at the class and only grade fifteen players as first-rounders, fucking draft them. Who cares what position they play?
I woulda preferred Jalen Carter for y’all, though haha.
Or Kelee Ringo. He didn’t look great playing against Marvin Harrison Jr, but that dude’s gonna make a lot of players look bad. Ringo’d be a good pick, I think.
I dunno about Levis haha. Feel pretty bad for him, though, just sittin’ in the green room… haha!
Maybe they’re gonna start running the T Offense? Haha! Old school, baby! Get three running backs on the field! I mean, Jameson Williams is out for six games, why not just run the fuck out of the ball? Lions’ O-line is pretty good. “It’s so crazy it just might work…” haha.
That’d be a good pick. Maybe he’ll be there for the Rams…
I’ve read this morning that there were apparently other teams planning to snag Gibbs last night and who were going to try to trade up if he was still on the board. Like I said before, I don’t hate the pick but definitely wonder about Swift’s future. Even the RB coach didn’t mention Swift in his press conference…only Montgomery and Gibbs.
Draft grades and “not drafting a particular position earlier than xx” are kinda silly IMO. They’re mostly based on what/who some people think a team needs rather than who the team thinks is a good fit/value. The Lions made some splashes last year with their “under the radar” picks. Verdict is definitely still out on this year’s draft class.
I think it just goes to what are considered premier positions which typically have the biggest impact on a game, QB, Edge, OT, and CB typically have a bigger impact on a game than an inside LB. But if Campbell even turns into a Bobby Wagner type impact, it will definitely be worth the pick.
And it shows that Brad Holmes doesn’t necessarily feel “premiere positions” always carry as much value as some do. Patriots drafted that way for a long time. They’d constantly have mediocre draft grades but they’d get the guys they wanted and fit their scheme.
For sure, although the Patriots had Tom Brady for their entire reign so that helps. Plus they typically fielded a very good to great defense with players all over the field, Richard Seymour, Ty Law, Rodney Harrison, Willie McGinest, Tedy Bruschi, etc. Now the Lions just need to find their Tom Brady!
Well, he’s definitely gone after this season haha, if not sooner. Isn’t he always hurt? I feel like he always misses a bunch of games every year. Gibbs is way more explosive and dangerous, too. I’m not an “expert scout” haha or whatever, but even I could see that. Deandre can break off some nice runs, but he can get chased down from behind, seen it happen a lot. I don’t think that’ll happen with Gibbs.
And even if he isn’t better than Swift, now y’all have the same type player on a rookie contract. I think Gibbs is gonna be better than Swift, though. And once Jameson gets back… I’m pretty stoked to watch the Lions this year haha, even WITH Goff at QB haha…
Well, yeah, of course haha. They haven’t even played yet haha!
Right. I understand that. But if you see,”This dude is a really good football player,” and then you see,”This guy might be a good football player,” why not take the guy you can already see is good? Who cares what position they play? If you can get a ten year+ starter, get him. And then deal with the rest later.
I dunno. Maybe I wouldn’t be a great general manager haha. I like the Jack Campbell pick, though, even if he was drafted earlier than all the draft dipshits thought he should be taken.
And who the fuck is Mel Kiper, anyway? Haha. Why does that guy even still have a job? Seriously, he’s wrong about EVERYTHING. I don’t watch the draft on ESPN anymore, watch it on NFL network, just because I know that everything Mel Kiper says is gonna be wrong haha.
This weekend we’re all armchair general managers and scouts. We go back to being armchair QBs in August. Between now and then some of us moonlight as growers.
Dude… I’m dying to end this log and start the new one, just gotta write the smoke reports for the rest of the stuff from the last grow before I do that. I’m having a hard time with that because everything is kinda smoking very similar, nothing really seems like it would’ve been a “keeper” or whatever, definitely no “standouts.” I keep trying to figure out if maybe I’m not being as observant as I should be or if the weed from last round just isn’t all that great. Pretty sure it’s the latter, though.
Really the only thing I need to figure out before I write the reports is exactly what it is I’m tasting. The flavors are the highlight, a lot of tasty stuff (except for the Sour Diesel cross), so I wanna get that right. But the highs on all of them (besides the Santa Cruz Pure Haze cross) have all been very… just… whatever. There’s really no other way to put it, but the smoke from this last grow has not been my favorite. It’s good enough, I guess, but it seems like something’s kinda “lacking” with all of them, haven’t really felt like writing multiple smoke reports about,”Yeah, this weed is just okay…” ya know?
And if I wanna talk about football with the dude who has a Lions logo as his avatar, I’m gonna fucking talk to him about it haha! Anybody else wants to talk about football during draft weekend, I’m fine with that, too. The draft is fun! haha.
Eh… I can wait. Football starting is always a bittersweet moment, because it means that summer’s over haha. I need some Summer. Like, right now haha. I can wait on football.
You know Dan And Crew are gonna coach ‘em up haha. They’ll make them better. I mean, “ceiling” or “floor,” it’s up to the coaches to make them better.
Did you see Amon-Ra on the stage last night? When he was like,”Ohhhhh, so this is what it looks like up here…”? So funny. Just a total “Fuck you” to everybody who didn’t draft one of the best receivers in the league.
It’s fucking pouring down rain, freezing cold and it just hailed for like ten minutes straight. HAILED. In May. What the fuck? I dunno how much more of this weather I can take.
I was gonna go down and join the Writers Guild protests today, but I’m kinda glad I didn’t now haha. I feel for the people who went, though. This weather sucks.
Even though I have no skin in that game, best believe that it’s gonna happen to all of us soon enough. Any chance you get to let it be known that it’s not okay for one dipshit to make 100 million dollars while the people who actually make that much money possible get scraps, you take advantage of it. You can see it happening, right before our eyes: they’re fucking us. Right in the ass.
I saw a friend of mine who lives in Austin post a picture of her on FB at a restaurant getting waited on by a “robot waiter” and was like,”What the fuck are you doing?!? That’s my livelihood!” haha. “That’s what I do! Don’t encourage this shit!”
Anyway… Yeah. I dunno. Be aware of what’s happening and resist it. Don’t allow it to happen.
Dude I’m way behind on my reading here and so many other threads but just wanted to swing in and say what’s up @minitiger and let you know I haven’t dropped out of the blog-o-sphere, just dragging ass:heart:
Dude… It’s fine. There’s really nothing to read here lately anyway haha. I’m not sitting around going,”Why isn’t LegsMahoney chiming in?!!?!?” haha.
I appreciate it, though. Gonna try and get some of the smoke reports of the most recent stuff written soon. I’m just kinda having a moment right now, a little mental breakdown or whatever… It happens. I hope it’ll pass soon.
My troubles are your troubles, too. You just deal with them better, I guess haha. But they’re coming for you the same way they’re coming for all of us.
Like, you know when you go to the grocery store and there’s fifteen checkout lanes or whatever they’re called, but there’s only three people actually working at them and the other twelve are closed? And you can see that the grocery store is kind of trying to force you to use the self-checkout thing? Because nobody really wants to stand in line. That’s the business model everywhere now: no more humans. And it’s fucking weirding me out.
Same as, like, when you order food from grubhub or whatever and your order gets fucked up and you contact them to get your money back for the food that’s missing and you get some fucking bot that’s just like,”Thank you. For letting us know. Please explain your problem.” and you’re like,”I just fucking did. Can I talk to a human being so we can get this resolved in thirty seconds instead of ten minutes?”
I honestly don’t get what the end-game is here. Like, what? A thousand people have all the money in the world and everybody else is broke and living in the woods? Or something? Maybe they’re all dead and there’s just a thousand insanely wealthy people who have the world all to themselves? Like, five people per country or something? “You can have the US and I’ll take Brazil!”
I don’t understand it. It’s not a sustainable thing.
Also, just so we’re clear, I refuse to use those self-checkout things haha. I’ve used them a few times over the years and every time I do, I yell out,”Y’all owe me money! Where’s my check?” haha. “Didn’t realize I had a job at Sprouts now!” And I always, always, ALWAYS make it a point to steal a few things whenever I have used them haha. You gotta steal a few things, even if it’s just a little ginger and a couple apples.
