not always. early resin on a male=keep that dude by any means necessary
if that’s the case I’m calling my next early resin male Malcolm X
That photo of the males is what mine looked liked until I defoiled them.
Ive got 1 female that is matching the size and structure of the bigger males but other than that most of them are on the shorter side.
I’m copying and pasting this from my personal Goji thread.
I’m super upset everyone…
I just made a shocking discovery. 7 out of 9 of my ladies are showing intersex traits. Clusters of pollen sacks… On 7 out of 9! Most of the sacks are open. Pistils showing signs of pollination.
I’m not even sure how I feel right now. Dumb… Careless… Foolish. Numb, would probably be the best description. Pissed… no… disappointed. Ya… that’s the one. I kinda feel like Clark Griswold when he opened his bonus on Christmas Eve and found a subscription to the Jelly of the Month Club…
This run is over for me.
Unless someone has a Alt-Z (undo) button?! No eh?! Fuck. Fucking fuck.
Sorry If I let everyone down. I feel like I let myself down. The tent was checked for light leaks. The plants are looking healthy AF… I don’t get it. I turned off my light and locked my head in there again just now. Total darkness. I’m gutted. All that time and effort… poof. Gone.
Sorry peeps. Not sure how to proceed. Suggestions welcome.
Holy shit man… but you still have few ladies left?
Awwww, man, sorry to hear that. Don’t beat yourself up too much.
Damn brother, I feel for you. The reality is that sometimes we do shit, and it doesn’t go the way we hoped or expected. We don’t pay attention to something we could have, and there’s a consequence. On the other hand, it appears your environment was ideal, including no light leaks, which means these seeds are exhibiting genetic hermaphroditism. They would have hermed whether you caught them or not, and you would have had to cut them anyway. There’s no way you could have caught every banana on a true hermaphrodite.
I hear you that you’re disappointed; I would be devastated too, but don’t make it your fault. It would have been that outcome regardless.
Rip em, burn em, pop some new beans. You got this brother.
In order to succeed you must accept failure bro, You are the reason behind research, developoment, grows after grows etc your time so no appologies your our Inspiration…
That’s a really tall dude
Shit happens man. Sorry about the trouble that’s happening. All ya can do is move on and forgot about the hiccups. I understand fully how ya feel, I’ve ran into big bumps myself twice in a row. Straight up, it sux. But keep moving forward my friend, all will be better in time
@NorthNorthNugs this sucks but know that no one important will lay the blame at your feet.
cannabis is naturally a monoecious plant. goji og is one of bodhis most famous crosses and somehow became infallible. it’s still an OG and just like Chems and sours intersex is apart of their genetic makeup.
are these seed plants or cuts? remember that cuts behave different than seed plants. it might be worth it to try again with cuts.
I’d probably chop that as it looks pretty significant, I just had an OG cross throw balls and it’s such a heartbreak. I’d rather find botrytis because then at least I can keep the cut around and try again…
Damn @NorthNorthNugs im sorry buddy, I know how much work you were putting into this, that’s a real shot. Like others said though I don’t think this is your fault, just the roll of the dice this time, don’t beat yourself up too bad, there are others running these seeds for the same purpose, so the chances of a successful repro are good, a well thought out approach by @The_Lazy_Hippie what’s left in there after you remove the offenders? It sounded like there are two left that have not shown intersex? I’d keep those cuts and plan to hit them with some of the donated pollen that’s likely to come from others efforts. Maybe run the current ones sensi for some smoke to help ease your sorrows. Keep your head up man, you’re killing it this round and just got dealt a shitty hand, the pendulum by its nature must swing out, but it always swings back.
Seems to me you were a very good choice and didn’t let anyone down. Your attention to detail through your quality and detailed reporting helped keep intersex traits from circulating in the community where others may not have even noticed them. Also your transparency with the issues you’re having is appreciated. I’ve been reading your thread as well as this one from the start and you did a great job in my opinion.
@NorthNorthNugs That’s farmin’ for ya. No guarantees, unless they’re gmo’d!
I had some sacs pop up when I last ran Gojis. They were all in the lower regions. I plucked them, and no more showed up. Just a thought.
They did look great!
i was thinking along those lines but he mentioned some of the pistils have already been pollinated on the non intersex females… id say best bet would be to use clones from those, or reveg them if they arent cloned already, store some pollen and then put it on those two. Truly @NorthNorthNugs you may be selecting the goji og line away from intersex which would be terrific. Plant breeding selection seems like the most difficult part so finishing flowering the two non intersex females this cycle will also let you see if the quality is worth pollinating, there might be some female herm seeds in them but youll still get to see if the smoke is decent or not… anyways ramble over, solid work on your process imo, def not a total loss depending how ya wanna take it from here
Do you think it would pay off to take cuttings from the true females and reveg them? Obviously they have stronger resistance to herm.
Just wondering.
I’m sorry, that’s sad news. Goji OG doesn’t have a reputation for herming at all. Those all look straight male in your pics because I see no pistils and you can see male flowers in other areas of the pic, like the background, with leaves covered in pollen, but they show HUGE clumps of male sacks forming. And clumps of male flowers take at least a week to form, so where were they yesterday? But your pics from yesterday show no male flowers in the tops. Strange! Pollen travels easily through a house, so it’s possible your plants are being pollinated by the male who’s dumping elsewhere, and not the herm lowers you’re showing.
Do you maybe have a light that’s disturbing their sleep during the night? That’s the only thing I can think of that could be the cause, because thousands of packs of this strain have been run by growers all around the world, and Goji doesn’t do this in general. If it’s just on the lowers, check for light leaks and let it be a lesson to always clean up the bottom half, literally maybe even 60% of plants when you’re running them for the first time. The mids and lowers do nothing for your weight and this is the hazard if you leave them on.
Before you chop @NorthNorthNugs would you do the community a favor? Please take whole plant shots, then a corresponding one of the tops of each plant and the lowers so we can clearly put together what the whole plant looks like and where on that whole plant the herm appeared. I think all the people who are going to grow out Goji F2 would significantly benefit from being able to compare your pics to their F2 plant pics, even if they don’t get any seeds from you.
The tops of the plants never lie. They’re either all one direction or the other or obviously mixed. I see zero pistils in your pics of internodal male pollen sacs, which I find odd since you showed so many internodes with pistils in a previous post. I think we’d all benefit from being able to see what each whole plant looked like, and probably even a whole garden shot, and then individual shots as well that clearly show hermaphroditism on the 7 you said were hermie.
Sorry to hear about your plants.
You’ve already come a long ways. I’d pluck the male flowers and keep growing on. You’re going to have some wonderful flowers regardless. If you don’t want those seeds, I’ll take them . I’d love to grow some goji.
