Bonsai of non-cannabis speces

Just potted these two saplings… going to be a bonsai project if they survive the transplant, which I’m really hoping they do. Because the spruce looks really neat. Any info on these possibly? Type?

Hey buds!

The previous owners of my property had more landscaping done with bushes and such, but by the time i got to it, the lawn had taken priority, and everything was cut down (hedge rows and such) and replaced with more grass.

In the ~10 yr ive been here ive found a few stragglers in the lawn,
And when i find them hiding amongst the grass i transplant the lil bushes and non grass plants to bonsai.

Ill take some pics when i get home.
No idea what they are. I assume they are just generic evergreen hedge bushes like aborvitae.

Ive always wanted to try with a fruit tree.

Not all bonsai books are expensive, i have a few cheap ones.

@Magu

The bottom 2 stacked are general “japanese gardens” but still a good read.

These were all thrift store books.
I reccomend abebooks. com for books in general

This one is like 4 years old.

These two are are fresh from the yard about a month ago.
Theyed get mowed down in the grass, grow a little, and re-mowed over and over till i found them.

I had a 4th one which only lived a year or so, very easy to forget to water them and; poof!.. they dead.

Found this beautiful pond bonsai pot, handmade by someone that was then gifted to a deceased family member. Found it with webs covering it and it was wasting away filled with years of dirt. Nothing. Now I have planted two well rooted western hemlock trees in the pot, and have tried to do some justice towards something that was so dearly given to me. This was special.

I’m no expert by any means, but I think practicing with a faster growing plant would only help. Something that grows fast like a weed

I know they like the top growth and their roots to be equal in power. And that cutting back roots stalls the top, and cutting the top stalls the roots. The less roots they have, the more often they’ll need a drink compared to the size of the top. Holding a mom this way actually taught me a lot about keeping my weed happy. I flowered her twice and her stalk was beefy.

My friend. You are missing the entire point of Bonsai. It is a slow, methodical process that is meant to create an entire landscape but in miniature size. It is a meditative act of reflection. The journey is important. Not the final destination. Peace. :rainbow:
