Bonsai of non-cannabis speces

Anyone do any bonsai of non-cannabis speces? I’ve been putting it off for years. Finally starting. Got some Colorado Blue Spruce seeds germinating and bought this Lemon Cypress yesterday to try and force it to conform. This is if lives after I took more than half the foliage and bent it over. This is my very first attempt. I’m aware that I’ll probably have marks from the wire without wrapping it. I have some succulent soil and and peat moss. Haven’t looked into what else I should add to the soil once I repot.

so anyone else play with bonsai that’s not cannabis?

I have always wanted to do this but never got around to it. I hope someone that has experience with this chimes in.

I have experience… with killing my bonsai  attempts because their pots are so tiny they need ridiculously attentive watering. Swore off unless I get a watering system.

@Cybersmib there are some fantastic tutorials up on YouTube, and some great books out in the world as well. Best of luck!

I’m jealous! everything I’ve learned(very little) has been from the tube.

x2!

been seeing humidity drip things for bonsai that I need to look into. Haven’t reduced the root ball yet, wanted to give it some time to recover from the butchering. hear the same on watering though and overwatering is the biggest killer apparently lol. I’m fkd.

I remember a show on PBS in the 1980s about bonsai. Dont remember the name. Maybe a google search would lead somewhere? :face_with_monocle:

I lived in a Buddhist monastery when I was 18 for the better part of a year. The Bonsai garden was one of my favorite parts. I got to learn a bit about it .
But even more I had access to the things I needed to grow some of the Durban Poison seeds I happened to have with me .
I broke all kinds of sacred rules and grew a few out , in the hills near the monastery.
I didn’t smoke weed the whole time I was there , but those couple of sad plants got me absolutely ripped , just a few hours after leaving lol

But ya Bonsai is cool

I Don’t like my pruning. I admittedly went easier than I think is ideal. It’s winter and it was outside. I should have topped and left alone for a few weeks in my veg tent. :man_shrugging:

I saw a book on Bonsai once. They wanted $ 300 dollars for it. Needless to say, I do not have a book on Bonsai.

I have been growing these western hemlock trees for 3 years now. I transplanted them from a stump young. And this is how they are so far. I will be continuing to grow them, and will train the larger one soon. They are and have been doing wonderful.
